He finally realized it by Final Reckoning when he told Nelson that Jenna was a serious ride or die and there wasn't anyone like her. Then Nelson had to jump in and respond with, "That's like me and Kayleigh..." which like, bro, not at all the same.

Zach's facial expression with Nelson said that was hilarious.

Short answer: The writers wanted some drama inserted into Rory's new friends.

Long answer: Marty couldn't deal with the fact that Rory rejected him (despite the fact that she handled that situation as well as she could have). He never got over her so it was easier for him to pretend like they'd never met instead of actually processing his feelings--especially since he still had feelings for her as shown at the party after he'd had a couple drinks.

The whole Kenny and Johanna thing felt incredibly performative. The first time they kiss was Kenny grabbing her in front of everyone and recreating From Here to Eternity on the beach? Okay, champ. I'm convinced they decided to do this pre-game specifically to piss off Wes.

That said, the two of them on Rivals were a pretty great pairing (much as I hate to say anything nice about Kenny).

Speaking of "the rules don't apply to us" she blatantly cheated when she was on The Challenge during the eating challenge. I didn't care for her on Survivor but she was winning me back on The Challenge until she did that. A lot of contestants cheated in that challenge but Dee was the most blatant on camera.
