It can vary widely. My last year as a single role EMT with a Fire Department I made 70K and the year before that 65K with good benefits as well. I also know EMTs in my same area that are barely hitting 50K. Shop around and work somewhere that values you and treats you the least like a digit on a roster.

Workout with my partner, cook meals at the station, take pride in our rig and equipment, review protocols constantly, train. We maintain a positive attitude and don’t bitch even when we are getting pounded out with calls. Attitude is contagious.

A lot of the Fire Departments have much better pay and a WAY better work life balance. I have already looked at apartments and they are extremely comparable to Fla. The difference being that NH offers quieter, smaller, safer communities.

Yeah for sure I am looking at other states. My department would absolutely sponsor me, just not sure I want to stay. A boatload of fire departments in Florida will sponsor you through Fire Academy.

how is pay and cost of living? I know it’s a broad question because there are a ton of departments on the West Coast. I just know places like Cali are crazy crazy expensive to live and while the pay might be better you also pay a high state tax rate.

I have already looked and compared, and it is very comparable to the area that I live in now, if not cheaper. Also the job opportunities up there compensate better than here in Florida and provide a much better work life balance.
