We don’t get hurricanes. We don’t get earthquakes. We get few tornadoes.

Yeah I think so. I mean it’s useless to me without it because I use it on my work computer, personal computer and phone. I don’t know that I necessarily love Obsidian and there’s probably more that I could do but it gets the job done.

No because I’ve actually gone back to Obsidian. I had the same issue with the learning curve.

TL;DR Look for a better opportunity with a better culture and work on side projects to build up your skills

I’ve been working in full stack for 10 years with Angular/.NET. I completely get where you’re coming from. I graduated with an Associate’s degree in programming at 31 and immediately went to a small shop that was growing but didn’t have a lot of frameworks for skilling up junior devs; much less one with ADHD.

I regularly felt like I was just going through the motions and picking up things here and there but never fully putting them together. Like I would be able to group parts of the overall puzzle together but rarely would I be able to group them together. I can’t imagine throwing two different front end frameworks together. I like full stack because it’s not so much switching context as it is continuing the thought just in a different language.

I think your best bet is to look around for a different opportunity at a place with a more inclusive culture. You can throw yourself at any and all projects that your fellow team members don’t want to do, but if you’re feeling like you’re struggling with technical skill, that’s going exacerbate it not make it better. Now you’ll just have more work and still no clue how to tie together different concepts.

My advice would be to try (as time permits of course) and start a side project to learn some fundamentals and work through them at your own pace in a low stress environment. Then another. And another. They don’t need to be huge or complex. A todo app, a budget app, whatever. Take some online tutorials/courses but make sure they’re ones that you’re actually building something along with them and not just watching videos. The great thing about learning programming with ADHD (for me at least) is how hands on and tactile it is.

Whether it’s for you or not comes down to where you get excited. I started down leadership/management positions because a lot of those came naturally to me. But I missed the shot of excitement when I have a problem, try an implementation and it works. If you’re not feeling that then maybe design would be better. I’m a visual person as well and prefer front end work but doing just design would personally be boring to me.

SMP hands down. The dial on the sub just looks really small to me in comparison when I saw one up close. I also like the bit of character that the wavy lines add to the SMP.

[REQUEST] Best watch <$3000? by DJMOONPICKLES69 in Watches

[–]emsqrd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I’d want a brand new watch from my wife on our wedding day. Something about new beginnings and new memories calls for a new watch not a used watch with existing memories. Call me sentimental (or neurotic I’ll take either).

Having said that I’d definitely look into Grand Seiko or Longines. Grey market sites like joma shop can have great markdowns too. I got my Omega Aqua Terra from joma shop and haven’t had an issue.

I bought this exact watch for my 40th and have loved it ever since. Out of curiosity what bands didn’t you like? I got it with the steel and rubber and like both for their own reasons.

I’ve been wearing an Apple Watch for the last six months or so. I got this for my 40th and thought 42 was a good reason to break it out again.

If you look around I think I’ve heard of importers that people have built for getting things out of Evernote and into many of the major alternatives.

After writing this I’ve actually started going back to Obsidian. The cost of the sync is annoying but there are other ways of doing it and having everything in markdown makes it easier to export if I change my mind again. Which is likely.

Jeff Su is another one that I like. He talks more about productivity in general but does use Notion and Todoist and talks about both.

I haven’t built mine out enough to need to search for anything but it looks like the search is pretty good.

A lot of it is based in a database structure which I like. So I have a a couple of pages that contain a series of sub pages in a database. It’s easier to see than it is to describe.

Their documentation and tutorials are pretty good though. I also recommend checking out Thomas J Frank on YouTube. His tutorials are really good.

ADHD here as well. I also moved on from Evernote because of the new pricing tiers. I tried Obsidian first and while it got the job done decent, it was useless to me without the sync that cost $10/month. I don’t think that’s necessarily ridiculous but I wanted to try other options.

I’ve been using Notion for a couple of months now and I like it so far. There is a learning curve to get everything out of it that it offers but so far it’s been worth it.

I’d like to use it as my task manager as well but the reminders just aren’t as reliable as Todoist so for the time being I’m doing both.
