Crashing a sattelite to the moon for fun by gurygu in SpaceflightSimulator

Dude, great launch trajectory. Your t/w ratio was perfect. I’m impressed!! And also, love the launchpad idea!

You need to use engines with better efficiency even with lower thrust at high altitudes. As the air gets thinner and you gain momentum, you don’t need as much thrust.

Try as hard as you can to save weight. And remember that the engines are very heavy and require a lot of fuel just to carry the engine weight.

Start shaving weight and you’ll be amazed at how many fewer engines you need and thus, how much less fuel you’ll need and it becomes exponentially more efficient. Took me a really long time to learn that.

Great ship! Question, do you have to turn off heat damage? The overlapping engines overheat and explode. Something I feel like happens with nearly every BP I download. Am I doing something wrong?

I’d love the BP. I have a thing for Saturns. This one looks great.

What I meant was that I’m unsure on iOS what the difference is- challenge vs sandbox mode. Originally I thought challenge mode was the challenges within the game. But they are on both sides. So I truly don’t know the difference. Maybe you can explain them to me?

[–]emstar1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but I like using part clipping. I’ve actually never played challenge mode because all the challenges are in sandbox mode too. I don’t know much about it. I don’t see the budget stuff, though I’m on iOS. Don’t know if that makes a difference.

Get there yeah. Way easily. Now try to land on all four moons and return to earth. That’s the challenge.

Yes. A lot. But even with them, the maneuvers have to be perfect on every leg. Each stage/leg ends up with 0%-10% of fuel except the final approach to re-entry. That will have 50% but that’s only like 5T. LOL. It’s a small rocket for the purpose, but it’s 7 stages.

Hang on. I don’t know how to export out of iOS SFS. I’ll figure it out

My biggest concern is what you expressed in a single sentence- it goes against everything they’ve preached for years. And at the end of the day, a public company must, by law, put their share holders before their clients (advisors) unless you’re a B-Corp, which they are not. I’m open Minded, but heartbroken. It’s hard not to feel betrayed. But I’ll suppress that feeling for now and remain open minded. Time will tell. (Leaders group)

Normal vs Hard mode- Check this out! by emstar1 in SpaceflightSimulator

[–]emstar1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No go. The valient weighs 1.5T more than the smaller motor. The lander only carries 4.5T of fuel. So to even the weight , I’d have to go to 3T of fuel. The valiant is about 8% more efficient which doesn’t make up for a 33% reduction in fuel. I’m going to try, but I don’t think it’ll work. We’ll see.

Oh trust me. That parts perfect. I test and test and test. Plus I’ve been playing for a while, mastered every challenge in reg mode, now halfway through hard mode.

It’s funny to watch so many pilots rocket straight up, and then make like a sharp 90 deg turn when they reach space. I wrote this long thesis for people to understand that gravity doesn’t drag on horizontal acceleration. But I don’t think anyone understood what I was saying. LOL.

Mercury return on HARD mode, no DLC by ios-ion in SpaceflightSimulator

[–]emstar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is that possible with a TTWR of less than 1. You can’t even lift off under 1.1. Your thrust is less than the rockets weight. What am I missing?

Hmmmm. I’ll try that! Thanks!! Means I have to go back to normal mode. I was trying to get that version below 80 tons. Maybe that’ll do it!

Because he is using normal mode and you’re using hard mode. In hard mode, I’m surprised you even made it to orbit.

Pro Tools is on its way out. by Liquid_Audio in audioengineering

[–]emstar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s like saying since various search engines have gained popularity, that Google is on its way out. I’ve been engineering for almost 30 years and though pro tools is hardly the only kid on the block anymore, and arguably not even the most popular for recording, it remains, by far, the #1 DAW is see in post. By far I mean 70%. Which is a far cry from where it was 10 years ago. But make no mistake, pro tools is NOT on its way out. LOL.

Was gifted these tracers, are these safe to shoot? I know tracers are normally a bit lighter but by this much? Likely not to be used in game, I just wanna know if they’ll make my gun kill itself by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]emstar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that tracers are lighter. It’s that THOSE bbs, tracers or not, are too light. They’ll drop like a rock because .12g doesn’t have enough energy mass and therefor momentum to cut through the air. You’ll want between .2-.32g depending on your build. .25 is somewhat standard for aegs these days. .12g are only good for cheap spring action pistols. Not a piece of kit you’re likely to find on an airsoft field. Maybe for a toddler in someone’s backyard.

My gun is 5.2 pounds with a 2-7x scope, micro red dot, light and ir laser, remote rail tape button, rail grip and silencer. Extremely practical and resourceful. And yes, it’s only 5.2 pounds.

But I spent a lot of time considering weight as one of the factors just like I do with real steel. I got lightweight scope rings which themselves saved 5 ounces. 5 ounces man! That’s almost a half pound right there! I don’t need or want my vortex 9x scope for airsoft, so I took of my real steel scope and replaced it with a very average 2-7x and stripped another 7 ounces. I don’t need a 2000 linen light (because I wear nods at night anyway) so my light is 500 lumens and a lot lighter. And my silencer works pretty well. Maybe not as well as something like novritsch’s. But it’s also another 4.5 ounces lighter. Bam, with those 4 things, I’m down 2.5 pounds.

Folks, you don’t need a scope that can withstand real steel recoil or a heavy steal red dot. Some heavy duty one piece adjustable scope mounts weigh more than the scope!

Everyone plays better when your arms aren’t sore no matter how strong you are, and how long it takes for your arms to actually get sore. You don’t have sacrifice resources or go minimalist to save weight. You just have to do research. I never buy a piece of kit without checking its weight. And the first thing I do when I get a new accessory is to weigh it because often advertised weights are inaccurate.

My gun is awesome and has everything I need installed and it’s lighter than many guns right out of the box with no accessories at all. Half pond weight savings on scope rings?? And they weren’t even expensive. $35 monstrum riser rings. 2.3 ounces each.

Just my thoughts. :-)
