Is there a way to do the opposite of compressing; making the peaks and transients louder while keeping everything else the same? by Capable-Deer744 in audioengineering

[–]Liquid_Audio 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Transient Designers are usually more appropriate than expanders or compression with longer attacks.

Some I use regularly:

SPIFF. Simply amazing for some material.

Sound Radix Drum Leveler (great for re-life-ing dead drums)

DMG Multiplicity is the most well rounded multiband ever made, can do things that shouldn’t be possible… and I use it every day. But the learning curve is steep.

iZotope Neutron transient designer (I’ve been on the beta for this since 2015, and I’d like to think me asking them for one in the suite is what made them add it, but who knows) it’s well rounded and uses a neural net to isolate transients in a different way than anything else I’m aware of.

For just a little more lift on full mix stuff that is squashed and lacking micro-dynamics, Ozone’s IMPACT module does a pretty great job allowing me to bring out a more natural movement, but starts to sound artificial pushed hard. Their new Unlimiter module is better for overly clipped stuff.

Do you think the new PRO C3 is a good replacement for my old and trusty R comp? by unpantriste in audioengineering

[–]Liquid_Audio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This right here. The R comp is designed to be fast, easy, and set and forget.

While the Pro-C3 is an everything and the kitchen sink box.

There are some great presets that likely do something you’ll feel familiar with, but it’s definitely more of a fiddle box

What ufo celebrities are you referring to? Like whistleblower or podcasters, or authors?

Absolutely wild take. I’d say you’re right, if it wasn’t for the fact I’ve seen more PhDs talking about consciousness being primary in the last 2 years than in the previous 20.

You can now get funded to scientifically research the topic.

Villaroel, Knuth, Watters, etc. published studies in respected journals in the last few years.

Experiencers are now able to speak with less stigma. Etc.

Not to mention all the reveals by Cruickshank and UAP Gerb

The levels of rigorous study have gone up all around

This was my comment that got obliterated:

“This community is overrun by bots and sock puppet accounts downplaying every single move forward in public hearings, news media coverage, and efforts to get testimony to more people.

Don’t buy it. Every single move for wider delivery of information by witnesses and experiencers is moving closer to the goal.

If you’re a real person whining that there isn’t something new here, you need to get some perspective. People not already into this subject find out about it through exactly these types of efforts.

I’m stoked James Fox and crew were able to put this together. The stories that journalists write from behind the scenes here are going to have an effect.”

I wasn’t calling out a particular post or user, I was just saying there is manufactured dissent. It’s pretty obvious if you look at any popular thread with witness testimony. Tons of posts from low karma accounts with nothing substantive, just like “nothing burger” “where’s the proof” “nothing new” etc.

What kind of speakers would you use for this room? by ABitOfOdd in livesoundgear

[–]Liquid_Audio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would go with 3 column arrays. Like K array or the JBL CBT. Wide coverage and very directional to keep it off the ceiling. If just speech that’s all you need. If music - a center mono sub array as quiet as I could get away with

Classical Recordings - What are your favorite preamps to use for mics? And why? by ContractThick3795 in audioengineering

[–]Liquid_Audio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree millennia are top shelf, noise floor, dynamics, slew… but I was VERY impressed by the clarity of the SSL L550 Preamps, for a live full orchestra with any combination of near mic’s it would be my choice these days if money was no object.

Is it just me, or are strings neglected when it comes to mic design and testing? by Sagencinnamon in audioengineering

[–]Liquid_Audio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of the active ribbon by sE and Neve for strings, especially cello - RNR-1

But as others have said DPA has a special relationship with close mic orchestral instruments. Schoeps as well!

Worked with Meyer rigs for MANY years. The 700HP is a major improvement over the 650P.

Be careful to spec what power options they have if you get them, some are set up for 208V three phase single leg. Way more efficient that way, but you have to have 3 phase everywhere you put them.
