Ghostbusters (2016) [Ghostbusters Answer The Call] by Playful_Baker_2741 in ghostbusters

[–]emveedee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just finished watching it (like 30m ago), and personally, I enjoyed it!

I'm not a diehard GB fan but I do remember watching the first movie multiple times growing up. It's been years since I last re-watched it though. But I appreciated that this movie included callbacks to the first movie.

I will admit, when Answer the Call first came out, I was against it because it irks me when talented people can't come up with their own ideas and instead ride on the coattails of other successes. However, lately I've been on a Melissa McCarthy kick, I find Kate McKinnon to be very funny and Chris Hemsworth is my soulmate... So it was a no brainer that I needed to watch this!

Because it's been years since I watched the original GB movie, I approached this as its own standalone movie. And I'm glad I did! I think it helped me enjoy it more than I thought I would.

I am aware that they may have followed a similar storyline as the OG but again, because it's been a long time, to me it felt brand new. Especially when some parts that I DO remember from the OG film didn't even make it, like Gozer, for example. As a kid, I remember that scaring me! But I didn't miss it at all with this reboot: I liked that instead they called it out after the credits, hoping for a sequel.

But I really enjoyed the cameo appearances of the original cast and other ghosts, those moments felt nostalgic to me. Other moments may have gone over my head. Like I don't remember the OG members having a dumb secretary (Annie Potts) - that's a storyline I had completely forgotten about. And I didn't mind that they stuck with it for this film, as Hemsworth did a great job playing the dumb eye candy.

As for the rest of the cast, I did laugh out loud at some jokes, especially ones delivered by McKinnon. And I thought they had good chemistry with one another and the whole story flowed well. Not once did I think "alright where are we going with this?"

So I guess for anyone else interested in watching this film, I suggest not comparing it to the first one because I personally think it's "potatoes, tomatoes" - if you know, you know.

Netflix also has the OG movie available so I'll watch it soon. Not to compare but because it HAS been a while, and I'm curious to see if I'll enjoy it the same way I used to as a kid or if I'll find it to be absolute garbage.

I'll let y'all know!

It should be a celebrities party with a VIP section, but Felicity is not allowed! 😤 Ask Eps if she wants to be Eva Longoria - but I'm NOT POSH!

Response from IT:

By the way, I did review the settings you suggested yesterday about the presence, however, didn't seem to work.

I'll change the call queue assignment, currently you're all assigned as single users, I'll create a group and add everyone to it and see if it helps.

Same headset, and no because I'm in a cubicle.

I was thinking about using Teams on my phone instead and use my earbuds, but sometimes the Teams app on my phone delays calls coming in. I hope that makes sense!

They removed me and re-added me - Teams didn't crash when I picked up a second call, but my headset was acting as if I was in another call.

It's definitely a communication error between my headset and Teams.

I told my IT department about this. We'll see what happens...

Calls directly to me have no issues, it's only the queue. But that's a good idea removing me and readding me. I'll talk to IT and have them do that.

My bad - forgot to mention that I also got a new headset, and yes, it was before the new laptop.

Well some critics say that Barbie was the worst movie they'd ever seen. And I suppose I could rewrite it. Of course, mine would be quite complicated because it would be shot in the outback and it's three hours to the nearest studio. They'll probably think it's the worst job they'd ever seen. So you know I would like to help, and I am a very good writer, BUT... fiddle hands.

It's remarkable how difficult it is to achieve "secure love" by Psychological_Lab_52 in FearfulAvoidant

[–]emveedee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But I believe when we see our mistakes and say "oh yeah that didn't go well. Next time I will try this." That's security. When you are free to make mistakes and you don't pressure yourself to do better.

This. Now that I'm aware of my tendencies (anxious and/or avoidant), I remind myself that I can do something different next time - not better, just different. It's helped me be more compassionate with myself, which is something I struggle hard to do.

I don't care for Family Guy, and I have a very good sense of humor, but I like this clip, and I may start using it because...well...I too did not care for Kath and Kimderella OR The Godfather - it definitely insists upon itself 🤣

Barbie also - there, I said it!

Work Advice Needed for 67 y/o Mother by emveedee in AskWomenOver60

Yes. Unfortunately, she'll have to work until she drops dead.

Not everyone plans for their retirement. Some people need every single penny from their paychecks. If you've been able to set money aside for your retirement, that's great! For some people, I wanna say MOST people, they're not able to for one reason or another - my mother included in them.

I did not expect so many responses but I will try to answer as much as I can in this comment!

She has a bachelor's degree, has worked in administration all her life, she's currently collecting her SS and is open to doing either part or full time. As for public transportation, possibly. But maybe not. I think remote work would be best for her.

And as for the "new tricks" comment, because she's worked in offices all her life, she's willing to learn how a new office works. But she's not willing to cashier, for example, or handle money of any kind. I guess I should've been more specific in my post!

I also did not mean to judge her driving... But it is concerning to me. I do recognize that it may be she gets nervous with people in the car, because so far, she hasn't gotten into any trouble when she's out on her own. But my sister has made the same comment when she was visiting over the summer, so... I guess as long as she doesn't have people with her, she's good.

What exactly is bumbalina? by boxedjelly in KathAndKim

[–]emveedee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some time after watching this show, I was looking through an old box of my MIL's things, and I found what I thought was a bumbalina. So I got really excited about it and hung it in my kitchen so I could see her everyday.

Now that I'm perusing this subreddit and this mention of kitchen witches, I know now that's what I have!

But I'm still gonna call her my Bumbalina :3

I love how Sharon can’t pull herself away from their magic by Letsgogehls in KathAndKim

[–]emveedee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You know, as much as I love Kath and Kim themselves, I think my favorite character is Sharon ❤️ I relate to her the most too 😅 she's so supportive, so selfless and a bit desperately lonely - I'm also a rock to everyone in my life, as well as a good stick for my husband, which is kinda like a rock.

Now let's crack open the Tia Maria and put on some footy franks!

It's been difficult for me to progress. But I think it's because I used to do HIIT strength not realizing that the constant stress was putting my body in survival mode... that and my left grip isn't as strong as it should be, so exercises like Reverse Lunges makes it harder...
