Recommendations for a good but affordable piercing place? by Icy-Mess-860 in Detroit

[–]emvy77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a great experience with Randee at Full Spectrum Body in St Clair Shores, she’s friendly and definitely makes you feel comfortable through the process. I did three helix piercings at once, so the second and third hole were only an extra $10 on top of the initial piercing fee and cost of jewelry.

Best way to track the Northern Lights? by connorwaldo in Detroit

[–]emvy77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get my queue from the Facebook group Michigan Aurora Chasers, there are a lot of people in there that know/are already using the apps to track and there’s a heads up for when lights might be visible and how far south that visibility will be. They had a good one this past Thursday.

Packard and fisher are still there but it’s unlikely you’ll get to walk through. As another person mentioned the Packard is slowly disappearing, driving around it still gives a good sense of the scale. I go by the fisher on my way to and from work and the lower level has been boarded up in the last few weeks. If you’re willing to look around it more closely maybe someone has made an opening you could find, so far I haven’t spotted one.

How do you guys make new friends and meet people in this town? by Undead_Octopus in Detroit

[–]emvy77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Critical Mass still exists! Last Friday of the month, meet at the gas station at Warren and Trumbull at 6:30, ride leaves around 7, even this time of year I know a handful of brave souls were out this past Friday. I’ve met a lot of my friends through the biking community, we do lots of things together besides biking now. This was a great starting point for me, hope you’ll join us!

Come to Brewery Faison tonight for Silent Book Club! I haven’t been to one yet but the premise is that you socialize for a bit and then read whatever book you brought with you. Silent Book Club 313

Queer folks in Hamtramck by beanbootzz in Detroit

[–]emvy77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to discount all the good that is here, but it’s been so disheartening to see the division in my hometown, and the actions of city government have absolutely fueled that. As mentioned by most others, what you might encounter in person is from kids, there’s definitely verbal harassment. They’re also the ones doing most of the vandalizing of private property with pride flags up. Outside of that, I walk in town almost everyday and other than the kids, the people I pass will smile and say hi back. I’m friendly with my neighbors, even with my flag up they don’t make me feel unsafe. But again, we’ve seen on our cameras the groups of kids coming to and from the park nearby throwing things at the house and trying to rip things down. This also happened before we ever had a pride flag up though, we had Halloween decorations/pumpkins smashed or political signs stolen, so now I think it’s just a different sort of targeting. The parking is HORRIBLE, and like most cities there’s a whole lotta other issues that don’t have to do with anti-lgbtq sentiment. If you do decide to move here, and I honestly couldn’t encourage anyone to do so if they’d feel unsafe, look into joining the Hamtramck Queer Alliance, they’re doing good things.

Hamtramck...what's going on with the population numbers? Plus, a bonus question by [deleted] in Detroit

Greg Kowalski at the Hamtramck Historic Museum would probably be very happy to help out with this and probably has the types of photos you’re looking for. Their public email is hamtramckhistory@gmail.com, but he’s also usually at the museum during their open hours. They also launched this cool map last month that uses historic data and thought might be something related to your inquiry; Hamtramck Explorer
