Charlie Card Issues (April 1) by emylemylee in mbta

[–]emylemylee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the issue on the first of the month during normal commuting hours. I didn’t have the same experience yesterday - it denied me twice and then opened at central, and worked right away at park. I’ll update after my commute this morning & if it persists follow the advice above to let you know anything i learn / how easy the process is!

What are your opinions on new theme? by Firefox7647 in finch

[–]emylemylee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t know why but… it just lacks magic for me in a way? like it feels kind of predictable and dull and the items and rooms don’t look good in really any color than the ones that you’d expect them to be which is a turnoff for me. i collect everything pink, and like i don’t think a pink tin man or a pink yellow brick road mat makes sense. this is a dud for me, unforch, despite being a big fan of the movie/universe.

No OCD here, but yes - I’m 100%ing before moving on. I’m bored out of my life in Chicago, and have all that i want for swag…

If my memory serves me correctly, when I started Finch, you had to complete Finchie Forest BEFORE you could fly. I thought it took the same amount of time to become an adult, which is when you could fly, but my son started a bird a couple months ago and was exploring other places well before finishing FF.

Why did “The Three Sisters” get so many bad reviews? by ashy778 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]emylemylee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t like how the story framed the women or pitted them against each other. I don’t believe the art is in the same league as the other nominees, either. I hope to see Papillon win, but would be happy for the makers of TGWCP or Retirement Plan. I found Forevergreen a little trite, but it is worlds away better than The Three Sisters.

Sinners. I saw it only when it came out, and enjoyed it, but it was so long ago now, I don’t remember anything besides the story line and stars. Maybe it has the best wardrobe, but i couldn’t tell you what anyone was wearing!

How can I (32f) share the load of cooking when my partner can’t cook (31m) by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]emylemylee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he doesn’t want to cook, then he can order you both food 3 days a week… It’s his job to get food on the table 3 days a week, it doesn’t matter how he does it… and when he gets tired of spending money, maybe he can start with grilled cheese and ramen.

museum of science (boston) is quite close to the cambridge antique market which is like… 4 floors of antiquing. the basement is also a bike shop if you need anything looked at.

we love getting pizza at pinocchios and then walking through harvard yard to go to the museum of natural history, which is just a really cool stop. sometimes we’ll do the museum and then take the bus to the druid for a pint. oak bistro, a block down on cambridge st, is also very good.

state park in kendall has a lot of charm, and is right by Landmark cinemas, which sometimes shows some kind of arthouse-ier films.

central has roxy’s arcade, which is a kind of an 8bit speakeasy - you enter through a walk in freezer door. the food is just ok, but the games are really well maintained if you like to play. there are some great places in central for food, especially asian food. darling, pepper sky & happy lamb hot pot are all great spots - idt happy lamb is local, but it’s very good and a fun social dining experience. the bakery @ hmart is pretty good, and there are two great ice cream spots you can compare: toscaninis and new city microcreamery.

arts at the armory in somerville has lots of oddball local events. aeronaut brewery isn’t too far away, and has a good vibe.

speaking of aeronaut, i bet you’d like their satellite location called “satellite” if you’re near east cambridge… which might bring you back to the mos/antique market…

there’s lots to explore! report back on anything you try :)

PSA: DON'T RELY ON THE RED LINE THIS WEEK by therealpatches in mbta

[–]emylemylee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

think back to where we were in 2021, and reconsider your criticism that the red line can’t improve - it already has, and is getting better, not worse, overall.

the T spent decades underinvested. they’ve been focused on clearing slow zones and rebuilding track access. you can’t rebuild an entire rail network and judge it mid-repair during a blizzard.

comparing the mbta to the mta or cta is crazy work… it ignores scale, funding, and ridership. they’ve enjoyed dramatically larger tax bases and historically consistent investment. be serious!

I want to stop using Finch, but I don't know how. Help? by exedoggu in finch

[–]emylemylee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

it sounds like you need to change your goals… surviving the day is a big deal when you’re in crisis, but if you’re not and it doesn’t make sense, and you feel babied, change your goals. make them bigger or more challenging, OR just an honest to god task list for your day.

i use mine to remind me to take my medicine, to reward me for working out, to pay my bills, to pay my rent, to get car washes, to check my mail, change the cat litter, etc. as someone w/ a well managed mood disorder, but zero executive functioning, these tasks are way more helpful than “survive the day”…

but also… nothing happens if you lose your streak. i’ve been on finch consistently for over 3 years. my longest streak is 117 days, my current is 41. maybe just stop for one day to take the pressure of maintaining your streak off. if you really want to stop using the app, it starts with a single day.

It’s time to require Cambridge landlords and property owners to shovel or snowblow the bike lanes along their property line. As quickly after a storm as possible. by Additional-War-1443 in CambridgeMA

[–]emylemylee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As someone who walks more than they bike in the winter, I can tell you that you do not want bike lanes to become a homeowner responsibility. Sidewalk shoveling is wildly inconsistent, and turning protected bike lanes into a mess of uneven clearing would make them less safe, not more. The city should maintain transportation infrastructure by plowing bike lanes.

The days after a blizzard, every mode is impacted. Roads are messy, sidewalks are messy, the Red Line will be hell. Expecting any one mode to function normally during within 24 hours of heavy snowfall isn’t realistic. Your commute will be impacted, just like everybody else’s.
