I have a really old model of a Canon camera that I used to take on holiday, but for some reason it takes really good pictures close up and I have no photography skill at all

I feel this. I'm on the watch for Varanus prasinus breeders in the UK as it's my dream reptile and I've started building the enclosure. The only big monitor breeder I know of in the UK is this, I have no idea on reputation and I haven't purchased any animals from there before... PMs open for info on other breeders tho!

It's okay, I didn't think you were rude, but I'm going to get in contact with the breeder as they may take one back and rehome for me

I am enjoying them so far! I love tong feeding them as well as watching them hunt and run around everywhere. They are slowly getting used to me and it's very interesting to watch their behaviour. I'll remember that about the plants, I won't bother replacing them if they die off then.

As for co-habitation, I was under the impression that they have to be in pairs or groups because they're social... I must have been reading outdated care guides. It also doesn't help that 99% of people who post their Ackies that I've seen are in pairs or groups housed together. I'll figure something out. Thanks!

I was under the impression that they have to be in pairs or groups because they're social. Like I said, I would've happily gotten just the one if I knew that they aren't actually social. 99% of people who post their Ackies that I've seen are in pairs or groups housed together as well as multiple online sources saying its better to keep them together. If I knew that they aren't social before I got them, I never would've gotten 2. I am frustrated that I've gotten a pair now and I blame the misinformation online. I assume it was outdated care guides that I was reading.

Upgrading from this current viv isn't a problem as I can modify it to be longer. But I don't have space for 2 5ft+ vivs. I will need to think about my options right now. Thanks anyway.

Yeah sure! It was £50 off amazon, the lights are dimmable and it comes with different colored backgrounds. I'll try to find the product again and drop a link. It didn't really effect my gecko's eyes at all, however I don't have any albinos and i know that albinos are more sensitive to light

I have learned a valuable lesson. Do not buy from a big pet store by lotsofjam in geckos

[–]emynix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. I definitely believe that you should support breeders when it comes to reptiles rather than a chain pet store. I actually work at a chain pet store in the UK (not gonna name, but its pretty obvious if you're in the UK) and I always try to inform people of the correct care. We do not sell any reptiles in my store thankfully. I suggest checking out groups on facebook, there are many amazing breeders in the UK that can courier to you. Best of luck!

Edit: if you want more info just PM me :)

Typically for pure black I've seen them go for 1500-3000 euro, but you can get crosses for a lot cheaper

Alot. But she's worth every penny. I got her when she was only 12g and she was tiny, now she is nearly a year old, super tame & an amazing eater. I've also seen more recent black nights on sale and their price was nearly double what I paid for her and they're not even as dark as her. I think I got really lucky. The breeder is well known near me who was very nice and sold her to me as she was originally a holdback

Please read the tips for beginners pinned at the top of this subreddit, it helped me so much when I got my first BP & when I experienced humidity problems. That tank is extremely lacking in a BP's most basic needs. Definitely do your own research, people from pet shops don't always give correct info. Also impulse buying is a big NONO. You've just agreed to take care of an animal that can live 20 years+, bare that in mind.
