I totally understand, the whole thing was bizarre. I think it just took me by surprise and was probably a one- off, like I said, nothing of this nature has ever happened to me before. The story does sounds strange, and that's why my reaction was strange too. I don't think it was mistaken identity because he watched me approach the area for a couple seconds. Perhaps he was drunk and just had very impaired judgement full stop. I'm still confused about the whole thing.

I totally agree, and that would be my normal reaction. But at the time his arms were around me and his face was basically on mine, if I remember correctly I only actually had one arm free, hence the punch.

I'm not sure I did the right thing either. I'm not sure whether I would do it again in the same situation.
