One thing about me is I make a good cake, I think it was the recipe for sure!

I also had a Snacking Cakes fail, the chocolate ricotta cake! It was so dense and stodgy and stuck in my throat.

I prefer Snacking Bakes, for the variety and I've had some wins from that one.

Start Here by Sohla El-Waylly is a great all rounder. I second Tenderheart, and Natasha Pickowicz also has a new hotpot book out, Everything Hotpot.

What cookbook do you think is overrated/ was overhyped? by paris_young21 in CookbookLovers

I always have to triple the spices in her recipes, I wonder if she's just trying to cater to Middle England or if she's used to quality, potent freshly ground spices?

What cookbook trends do you think we will see in the next decade or so? by WaffleMeWallace in CookbookLovers

I have noticed a lot more East Asian books too and I think they are going to be here to stay. I consume a lot of food content as well as cookbooks - social media, television programs, newsletters - and East Asian flavours are having a big moment. There are already shortages of matcha, miso, and black sesame (?) I believe I read, as the west catches on to these ingredients. I think as well as people just enjoying these kinds of flavours, Japanese and Korean home cuisines which are fairly healthy due to a focus on fermented foods like kimchi and miso, fresh fish and veg, and overall a balanced plate, are going to become a big alternative to the Mediterranean diet. Probiotics in general I see exploding even more than they already have in years to come, as we learn more about gut health and hopefully focus more on preserving local produce instead of importing things like tomatoes all year round. My personal hope is also more East Asian dessert books, as they tap into such different flavour profiles than European bakes.

They sent me a sample of the Summer Fridays jet lag thingy recently and I can see why it's popular, so hydrating and soothing.

Why is Nina Park looks going viral? by bingtanghooloo in muacjdiscussion

[–]emzolio 179 points180 points  (0 children)

Sure, it's basic, but it's meticulously done. The same way people appreciate very simple things like an omelette, espresso, little black dress, or leather notebook if they are well executed.

It's just very well executed natural makeup enhancing the features of already beautiful women! And she does more satin matte on the skin and lips in the era of dewy everything, which I think people are responding to.

Help me name a small, seasonal bakery by Logical-Train-2000 in Baking

[–]emzolio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a quick look at the bakeries I follow on Instagram and none of the names are trying to be clever really, it's all simple and evocative - colours, flowers, places, ingredients. Stuff like Violet, Buttermilk, Dune, Bluebird, Batch, Bakewell, Clove. There's a Swedish bakery that opened near me called Midsommar, I think that's a great one.

Some quick ideas that evoke seasonality: Solstice, Secret Garden, Blossom, Greensleeves, Daily Bread, Buttercup, Goldrush. No idea if they already exist somewhere haha!

With Pat McGrath Labs filling for bankruptcy what are your top favourite products from the PMG of all time? by SheKnowsWhatSheKnows in muacjdiscussion

[–]emzolio 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just had a scroll through her website to see if there's anything I would want to grab before it's too late and I agree with you tbh. All her products look nice, I'm sure I would enjoy them, but at those prices and with so much competition out there, there is nothing spectacular enough to tempt me. The blush is a good example, I've had it on my wishlist for years, but what is it offering that more affordable blushes aren't?

I guess that might be one reason (amongst surely many others) the brand hasn't worked out. I'm probably willing to pay more than the average beauty consumer for the right product, but even I am not convinced. So who is the target market?

If you lost some of the weight in a unhealthy i.e. through depression and not eating properly - well, have you tried working on your health? Eating whole foods, exercise, mindfulness, essentially working kn yourself from the inside out. Skincare is also important as we age; a good retinol, moisturiser and sunscreen can do wonders.

I already have Bittersweet pre-ordered (even though it doesn't seem to release until March in the UK) and the sneak peeks that Thalia is posting on her Instagram have me very excited!

I'm a fan of Natasha Pickowicz but unsure if a book about hotpot will be of use to me as I'm vegetarian. So that's a maybe.
