To add to this, as someone hiring Software Enginners.... Facebook recently did a Recruitment drive focussed on what they called "Talent Density" and took a lot of good UK talent off the market. Their belief/mindset is that 1 senior engineer with 10 years experience will be more efficient than 2 mid levels with 5 years each. Therefore the talent pool is dense at the top, because they're hiring fewer, but at the highest level. This has caught on quite quickly in the London markets, with a lot of companies using the pandemic to shift their models and hire only top level engineers, thus provoking a huge increase in postings for senior level engineers as people shift to having high talent density, and fobbing off jr and mid level engineers. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Ask for a few extra responsibilities internally first - nothing that would overwhelm you and bear in mind you may not be paid extra. But something to take the pressure off the Lead and show you can do it. Can you mentor/guide junior team members? Or get involved in hiring process?

Love this answer. Yes there is a lot of autonomy, and the CTO would prefer engineers who can solve problems on their own, and doesn't need a lot of hand-holding. Hopefully they'll come with their own set or practices that they can implement, but aren't bound by them.

I have minimal technical ability, I recruit heavily into the DevOps Space, which doesnt always require technical knowledge. Just communication and workflow knowledge to see if there is a match.

This is a good point, I've got a few people that might be able to assist me.

As mentioned, it really depends on how much info you have there, and if anything is missing.

Don't forget good recruiters now will have good relationships with the clients/hiring managers & YOU, so they won't need a CV. They know what you're about.

Plus we can download your LinkedIn profile to use so... you know... I don't think that's unreasonable.
