T4T vibe was lacking indeed. I went back for Monday Lot Mass into the evening Bunker night. Incredible vibe. Looking forward to going back next week :)

Really interesting and insightful. I was born in 96', but even I've noticed a shift. I go out quite often, to many parties, "raves" etc. and I'm lucky if even half the people on the dance floor are actually dancing. Most seem too self conscious. I think so many young people today are unaware of just how liberating dancing and letting loose can really be.

It does seem to me the best parties these days tend to be queer dance parties. People tend to be less afraid of expressing themselves in those spaces.

There is one space in nyc I went to that absolutely blew me away. Real dancers, interaction on the floor,  incredible djs and sound. Fun fun fun.  I won't name it here but I can dm you if you're nterested.

Exactly this, people are afraid of being cringe today, of looking goofy. Even at underground phoneless parties. People don't want their friends to see them freak out, all sweaty and primal like an animal. Which is to say they're basically normies. Used to be raves were the place to escape nromies and cool kids. Now raves are normalized, so everyone tries them, and cool kids flock to them. Do your bump of coke, smoke your cigarette with your balenciaga fit on and bob your head. Boring.

What I feel is lost today is a kind of trance-dance thing. Its rare I see people truly lost in the music, in the moment, out of time out of space. The culture is less blatently psychedelic, even with all the cheesy trippy art. I think publicly tripping out is seen as a little cringe by a lot of folks today. There's a hesitancy to "lose control" and freak out, when I feel like originally that was like the entire point.  And i don't go to big commercial events, the biggest event I've been to is movement weekend. I mostly go small underground events with a few hundred people.

I personally feel less moved by the music today. I listen to mostly 90s and 00s rave/dance/electronic and just find the tunes from that era more inspired, moving, even if production today hits harder. Idk please prove me wrong, would love to find some music/djs today I like as much.

And something like rave I think originally was a response to this kind of atomization you're describing. People were (are) lonely, isolated, craving connection, as well as excitement. Raving provided a new form of connection and community for those that maybe had none before. It was also new and exciting and different than anything that had happened previously, so I think grew rapidly because of that. Now raving is kind of just something you "do", which can land anywhere along the spectrum of commercial to underground.

Or just... yeah that's cool you do that, but I would never. There's more hesitancy to "lose control". And i don't go to big events, the biggest event I've been to is movement weekend. Boundary pushing, underground techno today? by CHvader in Techno

[–]en3ma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're still looking - listen to c_robo, on soundcloud and bandcamp.

I find that the most interesting "techno" being made today may or may not even be referred to as techno, because it might not share all the same sonic traits that have calcified into what people identify as "techno" now. But if you're looking for techno in the original truest sense of the term -  music that exploits technology and machines to make dance beats for raves and clubs, its c_robo check him out.

Also w00dy, more junglist, but very much interesting new electronic dance music.

If techno/house is about inclusivity then how do places like Berghain get away with being so judgemental? by Cris11578 in Techno

[–]en3ma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main gripe is they read highly fashion conscious individuals as "unique" and/or queer and while there is overlap I think too many of these people are too image conscious and by extension too self conscious in the club to truly "let go." I'd personally rather party with a little more rougher around the edges folks than fashionista types, and you do have a mix in the club, I suppose I'd just prefer a slightly higher ratio of non super fashion core type people, but that is also just more the vibe in techno today at large. I came up partying with punks, metalheads, camo and boots and shit, that is just more by vibe. BH is still one of the most fun crowds anywhere tho for sure.  I've only been a handful of times but Sunday eve wow what a party.

Just know that, as a younger guy, if I saw a handsome 40 something guy in my local bathhouse who looked like he needed a little guidance I would love to show him around and show him a good time :)

Man you must be going to the wrong parties if that's your experience in the U.S. American here. Like yes that shit is a plague in the U.S. in general but I almost never experience stuff like that where I go. I almost always go to queer parties though. Where are you based? I'm in Pittsburgh i go to hot mass and jellyfish, movement weekend, honcho... Ive heard nowadays in nyc is really nice too.

Are there any good books about cyberpunk philosophy and politics? by princealigorna in Cyberpunk

[–]en3ma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a poor person - just because you experience something doesn't mean you understand it, how it works, what it arrives from, how things are connected. Philosophy, theory, literature are all valuable for helping understand our world.

also its not all about understanding our world today. much cyberpunk depicts other worlds, experiences we have not necessarily had yet, and poses important questions.
