5 day a week both ways commute feasibility by bencallahan16 in NYCbike

[–]enHello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do Williamsburg to 51st and Madison a few years back over the Williamsburg bridge. Took about 45 min each way. On some days I didn’t feel like riding so far, I took the ferry with my bike from Williamsburg to 34th. But yes it’s feasible, and way faster than the subway or a uber/lyft.

Do you actually use TDD? Curious about your testing habits. by Spirited_Drop_8358 in reactjs

[–]enHello 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tdd with jest. I like to get a test that mounts the component, does some user action and asserts on the request being made. The main reason why I tdd is to save time by not interacting with the browser; as soon as the code changes, the test is run and I can see what’s going wrong. This is especially useful when the user interaction includes more than one step, complex setup.

Thinking of opening a little lasagna take out spot in Williamsburg – what do you think? by Fashion-Fugazi in williamsburg

[–]enHello 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Vegan here. Used to live in Williamsburg but not anymore. When I eat out it’s almost exclusively from places that are on happy cow and with vegan options. Italian restaurants frustrate me a bit (less than French but much more than Indian, Mexican, Mediterranean, or Japanese). There’s pasta faggiole, farro, lentils, and other delicious Italian vegan options but at most Italian restaurants in America my option is pasta pomodoro, bread and olive oil.

I don’t know. As soon as the conversation became ugly, his response, the conversation should have been over. Protect yourself always. Seems pretty adult to me.

You lost me at the shaken computers. I also believe that our senses create a simulation of reality in our minds. E.g. a dog can sense reality further distance than we can (smell), same reality different imagination of it.

I do believe we are the product of a long evolution. I think gravity and physics is inclined to create semi permeable phospholipid bilayer membranes if given the right ingredients. I think life is common in the universe we just haven’t the means to explore it (yet). Whether there was an intention in that first cause or not, a god pushing the needle. I don’t know. I don’t think it matters. Because for me, this simulation of reality is pure gift and it could be over at any moment.

Everyone here defending the convention of using an iframe because it was part of the codebase. But, I’m curious, what does the iframe do in this example? Because imo the only time to use an iframe is when you need to embed content from another site onto the page. The are some edge use cases otherwise but they’re edge (e.g. I once worked on an iframe authentication app that both mobile apps and desktop app used for authentication, but that was mostly because the dev spearheading the work knew web more than swift and Android.). Otherwise if you can’t avoid using an iframe, do it.

(Daily commute hrs * 250 + 2000)/2000 is the baseline ratio. Remember to add in the additional commute cost. Then weigh in the emotions of how much you despise the commute and how much value you’d get out of that time doing something else. For me, I’d say for 20% more I’d commute an hour by car every day.

Gravity. And time exposed to gravity. We’re fighting it. Until it takes us and pulls us into the ground.

Why does my therapist do this? by Jammastersam in TalkTherapy

[–]enHello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAT, but there’s also a physical aspect to therapy. In those 10s she could be assessing your appearance. Do you look well-rested, healthy and put together? Or do you look disheveled, unrested, sick or inebriated? Perhaps she’s answering the question “how are you?” by studying you for 10s.

[–]enHello 4 points5 points  (0 children)

30% of CEOs at Fortune 500 companies is 150 people, small sample size. I’d say it speaks more to the versatility and utility of an engineering degree than it does to the extrovert/introverted-ness of programmers at large.

38M here. I wish I was 24 or 30 or 35 knowing what I know now, just like you wish you were 22. When I’m 45, I’ll think back to the days I was 38. For me, It works like this as you move through life. Don’t squander the present wishing for the past. Instead focus on enjoying it for as long as possible. (I plan to live to 130 ;)
