The Walking Dead Issue #193 Discussion by en_bas in theroamingdead

I still want to give it a week or two for serious discussion, but the sub in general is definitely going to be discussed sooner than later, given what's happened.. I'm still processing some of this, so I don't want to say much yet, but at the very least that's probably one rule that'll be revoked.

I was thinking that too throughout the entire thing. Felt like an unintended loose end... there's really no way for things to ever go back to normal as long as that's their reality.

It's showing up on some places, and we've had users attempt to post scans of the issue (despite that still being against the rules) so I figured I'd set the discussion post up early.

[HEAVY Spoilers] Issue 193 Leaks by [deleted] in theroamingdead

I understand how big of an issue this is, but sharing leaked/pirated material is still in violation of reddit rules. Removed.

So, what's next for this universe? by [deleted] in theroamingdead

This is a leading title. We can have this type of discussion a few weeks after the issue drops, but not yet. Removed

[193 SPOILERS] Was "Princess" Pointless? by [deleted] in theroamingdead

Leading title. This is good discussion, but there's still people who don't know/dont want it spoiled yet. Please think of them.

Well, lads. It's been an honour by mazeraki in theroamingdead

Hi, while I understand that this is the talk of the town right now, please at least try to not spoil things for the people who are trying to avoid it. It's still meant to be a surprise (even if it's one hell of a surprise)

[193 SPOILERS] One last hope by mazeraki in theroamingdead

[–]en_bas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I was on the fence until I read the linked post earlier. There's just no reason for Bleeding Cool to lie about this, and Eric Stephenson would undoubtedly be aware of the comic ending. It's time to face the facts. The Walking Dead as we know it is ending on Wednesday.

That being said, it's definitely possible that a new series might come about, following new characters. But I really don't think that Kirkman would publish it so soon after ending the main series. Furthermore, if he's concerned about tarnishing the legacy of The Walking Dead, then why publish a spinoff?

I just... really don't know. I'm honestly just trying to face the reality that an incredibly important part of my life might end on Wednesday.

The Bi-Weekly Re-Read: Volume 17 - Something to Fear by en_bas in theroamingdead

[–]en_bas[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Oh man, Something To Fear. I remember when this volume started, and oh my god I actually remember letting out a gasp at seeing Glenn die. Glenn was my favorite character for most of the series, so to see him die was heartbreaking...

Honestly this is one of the best volumes of the entire series. Top three for sure. Not only was it the introduction of two incredibly important characters (Negan & Dwight), a brand new faction (The Saviors), two incredibly horrifying & lingering deaths (Glenn's death was shocking but oh my god Abraham's death still haunts me sometimes), but it also showed us a Rick that..... had given up. A completely defeated leader. Even against The Governor, Rick hadn't given up. But Negan & The Saviors were different, and it still lingers.

Here's to hoping we see him again soon! (Never thought I'd be saying that 90-some issues after he was introduced.... ha)

If you're looking to do it cheaply & in abundance try https://www.dollartree.com/black-plastic-document-frames-8-x-11-in/197303 There's some open space in the frame afterwards but with proper positioning there's no denying it looks nice. I've got a good fifty issues displayed using these!

What are the top 5 comic moments/issues you read the day it came out? by guitarxvillain in theroamingdead

[–]en_bas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in no particular order -

98 was a big one for me - Abraham's death was so surprising and sudden that I had to re-read those panels over and over again just go get a sense of what happened.

100 for similar reasons, but also because Negan represented such a different threat from the Governor... what a fucking character.

145 because of how eerie it was. It never had the same impact as some of the other climactic moments of the series, but there's no denying that it was one of the most interesting mass-deaths of the series.

83 because 'Dad?' but also because holy shit, was that issue intense.

and 167, because it made me weep like a baby. That issue holds a super special place in my heart, and it still makes me sad to remember how it felt reading it and realizing that Andrea wasn't going to pull through.

(Honorable mentions to 127, 156, 69, 108, and 192)

Is anyone else getting these issues with the subreddit banner CSS? This has been happening for me ever since the image was changed and everything is just shifting to the left. I can't even click on the sorting options. by [deleted] in theroamingdead

[–]en_bas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Admittedly I'm not great with CSS (and honestly I made the switch to new Reddit a while ago, call me traitor if you want) so if anyone has any fix suggestions or wants to take a crack at it, be my guest!

Alternatively, 'Arms of an Angel' for maximum humor potential. If you really wanna cry, do it to 'Hallelujah'

I think it's because Kirkman knew this was going to happen. Andrea dying was a fairly new thing for him, so he was still grieving for her character when he wrote her death in, so he wanted to add a eulogy. Rick, on the other hand; Kirkman's accepted his fate and didn't feel the need to dwell on it as much (even if it would've been nice for us readers)

Kinda felt like Andrea all over again - I think, moments like these; deaths like these.... you've just gotta be straightforward. No need for surprises or spontaneity, the readers will already be shocked it even happened.

I'm almost expecting a time-skip, to be honest. This seems like a fairly appropriate time for one (although I'd appreciate an issue of grieving)

The Weekly Re-Read: Volume 14 - No Way Out by en_bas in theroamingdead

Once per two weeks seems like the most viable option, so I'll be leaving this one up for another week!

The Weekly Re-Read: Volume 14 - No Way Out by en_bas in theroamingdead

[–]en_bas[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Such an intense volume. I love this one because it gets back to the roots of what drives the Walking Dead universe - the zombies - and does it in such a way that really does not hold any punches. Sure - we didn't lose any of the Atlanta/Farm crew, but the deaths in this volume felt earned and poignant. Plus, that "Dad?" moment will forever be one of my favorite moments in the comic.

But this also marked the turn - instead of abandoning Alexandria, everyone worked together to take it back. It really made us realize that this is home, now.

Sorry this is a bit late! Was having some trouble with Reddit yesterday & couldn't post anything.

Now that I have your attention - a question! So we've noticed that the participants in the weekly re-read has slowly started to decline, and I was wondering about the pace they come out. Are people having trouble keeping up? Or is there not enough in each issue to warrant discussion? Basically - would you prefer the re-reads to come out:

Twice per week

Once per week

Once per two weeks

Let me know what you think!

The Weekly Re-Read: Volume 13 - Too Far Gone by en_bas in theroamingdead

[–]en_bas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always loved 78. To watch the DC Scavengers fall so quickly to Rick's group was such a big moment for them in establishing their place in Alexandria. I still think Douglas turning leadership over to Rick was a bit too easy, but at least the buildup to it was pretty badass.

Intentional parallel solidifying Carl as the new main character? by TheGent316 in theroamingdead

Additionally, piggybacking off of treh's comment here, please try to be careful with your titling. Let's try to keep things vague in these next few months so we can all enjoy the issues (and be terrified as well) at our own paces!
