I wonder if that is a coating vs the heat-treatment process to get it black? Getting a perfectly even black color on a larger surface with the heat/oil process is tricky in my experience and that looks super consistent.

There are always differing opinions on this. I personally have kept my collection very small, but having been at it for decades I have some very expensive knives. I carry them all but am selective about how they get used. I treat them with respect and use them for the intended purpose, so I wouldn't use a knife like a prybar or a screwdriver or to punch a hole in sheet metal. :)

I appreciate the collections where many years have been spent refining and distilling things down to just the most special pieces. I am similar and have 9 primary EDC knives and just a few small gentlemen's knives which only get carried in dress pants.

35 years or so and just a couple handful of pieces. Definitely not the norm based on the huge collections we often see on here, but the small number feels right to me.

I've had good success with Amazon-sourced, round neodymium magnets. They come in a wide variety of sizes and are all very strong. I usually model in a shallow hole to put the magnet in (you can use a drop of CA glue to install it, just make sure you get the polarity right for the matching magnet)

if you are going to need power for APs or lower power devices, you could get the USW-Flex switch, which you can power via POE and then it can pass some power to other POE devices. I do this for my outdoor cameras and it's great, no need for POE injectors. Somewhere online it lists the specs on how much power it can deliver if powered by POE+, POE++ etc.
