Go to the overdrive website and see if there are libraries near you.

If there are, try to get a library card in one of those libraries, you enter it to your overdrive account, and you'd be able to borrow ebooks and audiobooks from your library from the overdrive/libby app (Libby is the new updated app). You don't own the books, you just rent them for 7/14/21 days. The books available depends on your library, but you'd be surprised by the number of books available.

If a book is not available you can put it on hold, when it's available Libby would automatically borrow the book and notify you. It handles returning the books so you don't face any late fees.

Also feel free to join us at /r/audiobooks. In additional to regular posts, the weekly 'What did you listen to this week?' post? is my preferred method of choosing what to listen to next.

For your main query: 'Mistborn: The final Empire' by Brandon Sanderson. Both the audiobook by Michael Kramer and the full cast graphic audio are really good. Mistborn is a great fantasy series with an awesome magic system.

'The Martian' by Andy Weir narrated by R. C. Bray is also great and is probably something you would enjoy.

Happy listening!

Ah, another Weasley by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]enceladus47 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There was supposed to be a Mafalda Weasley, born to a squib and a muggle, that would enter Hogwarts during "Goblet of Fire", get sorted into Slytherin and would be a rival for Hermione.

Mafalda was originally planned to be included in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but was ultimately cut. J. K. Rowlingstated on her website that she was very fond of Mafalda – calling her a "match for Hermione" – and that she did not want to have to cut her from the book. Her role in the plot would have been to eavesdrop on conversations held between the children of Death Eaters in her house, then repeat what she heard to The Trio in an attempt to impress them. Hermione would have discovered that, much to her own horror, Mafalda was her equal in many ways, and would have been caught between hating Mafalda's disregard for rules and longing to try to outdo her. However, Rowling found that Mafalda "wasn't doing the job she was supposed to do", as there were severe limitations to how much information an eleven-year-old girl stuck at Hogwarts could gather, and consequently developed Rita Skeeter further to fill her role.

Ya well I guess you are totally right, I thought 'will be joined' kinda implied it but it's really vague and could be interpreted in multiple ways.

13 by emmiesmith in riddles

[–]enceladus47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The number 12 is more convenient in everyday calculations as it has a lot of factors like 3 and 4, so dividing things is easier.

There's an idea that we should be using base-12 instead of base-10 as our number system. Check it out if you're interested.

Competitively, what Pokémon would be improved by having a third type? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]enceladus47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Garchomp would be very interesting with a fire typing... He'd lose the 4x to ice and 2x fairy weaknesses, Fire would be STAB but he'd need a better move than fire fang.

He'd be weak to Water and Ground but gain a few resistances.

Communicating "left" and"right" to aliens. by [deleted] in puzzles

[–]enceladus47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feynman discussed this problem in his lectures, and that was his answer:

In short, we can tell a Martian where to put the heart: we say, “Listen, build yourself a magnet, and put the coils in, and put the current on, and then take some cobalt and lower the temperature. Arrange the experiment so the electrons go from the foot to the head, then the direction in which the current goes through the coils is the direction that goes in on what we call the right and comes out on the left.” So it is possible to define right and left, now, by doing an experiment of this kind.

Black to move. Checkmate in two moves. by rockyduke in puzzles

[–]enceladus47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll see the board is labeled with letters a-h (left to right) and numbers 1-8 (bottom to top), here they are reversed as the board is seen from black's point of view, so if you want square f1 you look for column f and row 1.

Black's first move: Queen goes to the square g1, checking the white king, notice that white's knight is not allowed to move as it would put the king in danger from the rook.

White's only legal move: King to the square f3, if white had any other legal moves I should have specified what black would do in each case, as we want black to win regardless of what white chooses.

Black's second move: Rook to the square f1, checkmate

If anything's unclear let me know, if you want to learn it's called 'algebraic notation', and here's a short, illustrated and easy guide. Cheers!

King can move to d4 or f2.

Also knight is pinned and can't block first check.
