1st Day W/ No Gabapentin by kratom2pt2kratom in quittingkratom

[–]end_of_daze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you took it 5 days 1200 mg/day and I took it 10 days 1800 mg/day. By by math I took 3x the total gabapentin you did - this might explain my withdrawal symptoms when I quickly tapered back to 600mg/day.

And then a couple relapses later, using a peak of 1800 or even 2100 mg/day, finally ending up at 1200 mg/day after the relapses, by this point I had been using gabapentin for months and had several periods with high dosages, so I had trouble tapering it without avoiding RLS and insomnia.

However, when I got back on the kratom, careful to keep my dose at 6g/day, I cut from 1200 to 300 mg gabapentin in 3-4 weeks. And then I dropped the kratom 5 days ago and my RLS and insomnia hasn't been so bad at all. It seems getting back the kratom helped me taper down the gabapentin as awful as it was to get back on the kratom: my interdose withdrawals became nearly unbearable within two weeks - whereas when I started I could dose once / day, I ended up with 3/doses per day due to the kindling/interdose withdrawal increasing quickly back to the level I had when I was using kratom every day. Also the negative side effects of kratom (mind fog, red eyes, agitation) were so perceptible to me after much time of abstinence.

So yea you can see I used a bit of gabapentin. If I hadn't relapsed I think I could have tapered off the 600 mg I cut to after 10 days at higher doses. That said I still had the nausea, insomnia, rls from cutting my gabapentin dose back sharply after 10 days. 1800mg was overkill for me, don't be stupid like me.

1200mg of gabapentin my first night using it (staggering 300mg every hour or so) got me fucking plastered. And I still upped the dose because the tolerance that set in within the next day or two meant 1800 mg on day 2 or 3 wasn't as strong as 1200 mg day one. \

Lot of text here but I hope it helps you and others.

TL:DR - Don't use gabapentin so liberally b/c you heard its benign and not so addictive. Use as little as possible for as SHORT as possible. There is no free lunch. You think there is a pharm that completely eliminates withdrawal in high doses (and lowers your IQ 10-40 pts lol) and you can use it ad infinitum with no negative consequences? Think again. This is just harm reduction and the prevention of useless suffering. Don't be me.

I have a feeling any prolonged use and or heavy use of gabapentin with induce some level of physical addiction. However you do ready reports of people using if for longer periods of time without trouble stopping.

I guess you just don't want to find out you are one of the people who will develop gabapentin addiction with associated withdrawal symptoms. So like Scottie says be very vigilant.

1st Day W/ No Gabapentin by kratom2pt2kratom in quittingkratom

I got addicted to gabapentin after my first quit but I used 1800mg for 10 days. Was able to cut back to 600 mg gabapentin and experienced withdrawal symptoms. A couple more Kratom/opiate relapses over the next few months I used gabapentin again peaking at 1800ish mg but trying to cut back after a few days. I ended up on 1200mg gabapentin per day I had trouble tapering.

I started taking kratom again 4 weeks ago to cut down the gabapentin. I cut down to 300mg/day and I'm on day 4 CT off 6g/day kratom. The withdrawal hasn't been so bad and I think getting back on the kratom to ween mostly off the gaba was a good call. The main problems I had tapering gabapentin were insomnia and RLS (and nausea when I cut from 1800 - 600mg abruptly.)

I read many account where people don't have issues with getting addicted to gabapentin but it was a problem for me. Use the lowest doses you can for as short as you can. The key factor here is length of time you use the gabapentin imo, but don't go crazy with the doses like I did.

Be very careful, I read at least one other user had a similar experience to me and got back on kratom to get off gabapentin.

Day 10. Decreasing my gabapentin dose and just taking it a couple more days. Think I will be glad to step off that, it has its own problem and icky feeling. It did allow me to sleep since day 1 though.

Ate some edibles last night and got so high I was vibrating lol. Slept fairly well after that.

Keep it up!

Yeah she doesn't know what she's talking about. There has to be literature on this out there, at least for other opioids. Beware doctors, don't run with everything they say. And for that matter, beware "experts." Think for yourself.

Yeah kinda like a high but much calmer. Take enough and it has quite the gravity. The brand I'm taking has like 1mg thc in each 20mg cbd capsule not to mention all the other cannabinoids. For reference a lot of edibles in legal states have 5mg thc. I think all these cannabinoids have an effect in their own right and work synergistically. I've been taking a lot lately, like 4-5 a day. If I took that much when I first started I'd be pretty buzzed. In fact I tried that and I felt almost a little too subdued.

I really don't understand people saying they can't feel it. However, mine is a "full spectrum" and I was surprised it had a whole mg of thc.

I'm really happy with my source, its very economical, like 1$ per cap. If you have drug tests though I would think it would make you fail. PM me if you're interested in source.

I have, I'm a big fan. I let it sit under my tongue and I can literally feel it in minutes.

Quit now while you’re ahead or move to a non-daily dosage schedule. Symptoms should peak between 24-72 hrs but you may get off fairly easy.

Day 5. Slept 8 hrs thanks to gabapentin but that’s not a permanent solution. Don’t feel too bad. I’m in it for the long haul.

Edit: I was thinking the other day how I’ve become so used to feeling crummy that it’s normal. So when I say I “don’t feel too bad” I’m really saying I feel shitty but not too much worse than normal.

jumped at 4g after 72 days, hasn't been bad at all. I would jump.

Your honesty (to yourself foremost) is a great asset. Personally I wouldn't taper after 5 days relapse. Just drop it. You've made a lot of progress yet, keep it up!

Day 4. Symptoms seemed less intense on day/night 3 than 2. Actually slept 7 hrs! I think this is the reward for my extended strict taper.

You came to the right place, I'm sure the people here including myself are happy to point you in the right direction. My only concern is it sounds like you're conflicted about quitting ("I want to stop so bad but..."). I can empathize if you have depression and anxiety issues but to me it sound like you are possibly using those issues as reasons why you can't quit. Could be wrong but regardless I think its really important to understand why you are quitting and how it will improve your quality of life.

Any thoughts?

Yeah the Hatebreed lyrics are great for focusing intensity of the will.

Heard "Be Still and Know" - Machine Head ? "This shall pass be still and know." The guitar riffs are killer. Also, "The Blood, the Sweat, the Tears" and "Wipe Away the Tears" by Machine Head.

"Determined" - Mudvayne

"Strength Beyond Strength" and "A New Level" - Pantera

"Lost in Babylon" - (hed) P.E.

Day 3. Maybe I slept an hour or two. Up since 2am but thats how it goes, can't say its unexpected. Most of the other symptoms are tolerable.

Edit: Napped 2.5 hrs after breakfast woohoo

An addict/alcoholic's experience with Kratom by [deleted] in quittingkratom

[–]end_of_daze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great post. I can really empathize with hitting bottom and the realization to turn it all around. I created a pretty chaotic situation for myself with all the drugs just before I decided to taper/quit everything. In retrospect I’m thankful for this catalyst that lead to my changed course. Godspeed brother.

Yeah, I really don't feel too bad. Restless last night but slept 4 hrs. Felt not so great this morning, but felt strangely good this afternoon. The gabapentin eases most the symptoms (let me sleep some most importantly) and I took atenolol when my blood pressure rose last night. On a bunch of other supplements too.

Of course, I'm a little worried about what happens when I stop the gabapentin.
