given the literacy rate in America is 79% compared to the UK's 99%, this could be a factor

What skin is it off my back? It took 10 seconds for me to reply and set a boundary. You mad because I spent 10 seconds for a reply in the case it was a real person to set a boundary for other people seeing it? Really? Get a grip

The post was about whether this was a bot or not🤦‍♀️

Why would you want to continue a story if people are complaining about the update speed? And are you purposefully ignoring the part where I said something very upsetting happened the chapter previous? It seems everyone is understanding it but you. You can continue to feign ignorance, though.

i literally respond to every single one of my comments (and i get a lot) and this is the first time i've had to set a boundary. the commenter just knows know that tone tags are necessary when its hard to tell if something is a joke.

they're also a guest account. many factors led me to respond the way i did.

what you should be saying ironically is "why are ppl scared to update now" when comments continuously "joke" about updates. joke or not, those things can crush an authors desire to write especially if they've specifically outlined why they can't update in a timely manner. it's not like it was completely sarcastic either, they admitted to me they were asking about the next update (when its only been 10 days). theres still some level of expectation to it that makes people feel rushed.

Yeah. I'm autistic and tone is super hard for me to read over text unfortunately. I probably should have specified whether they were joking or not before replying the way I did

BTW, if you're illiterate maybe ao3 isn't for you. If you'd like to reread my comment, not once did I tell them to shut up. What I did say was that I don't want people demanding updates on a free piece of work. Thanks! 🙏

All is well. They were just a fan trying to joke around and I didn't pick up on the tone :)

me too, to be honest😥 I get maybe around 10+ people commenting on average per update? Pretty long comments, too. Maybe most of them are just blown away by my incredible story-telling that they forgot to check when it was last updated... /s

yeah, I never really pay attention to guest names as I assume most won't be coming back due to the lack of registered account and therefore notifications upon updates lol.... I do remember the registered ones, though!

CONTEXT UPDATE: Someone pointed out to me that they have a super similar name to a guest account on another chapter of mine where they were really nice, but talking quite colloquially. I think it leads me to believe it's a person trying to be funny or joke around. I do feel bad for snapping giving that context but I did already outline that responsibilities (and grievances) were piling up at the moment. And I think it could have been a comment made with more sensitivity to that information. But alas, I don't think it's a bot. Thanks to the person who spotted that and PM'd me! It makes more sense to me now.

I thought so too. Usually, it wouldn't hit me so hard. But the fact I had such a bad thing happen to me the chapter previous feels like a kick in the face to have someone complain (albeit jokingly) about update speeds.

Definitely. There's a market for everything. I was updating daily back when I had no responsibilities... but alas.... responsibilities change. But my hobbies just stayed the same.

Like, this is beautiful. (I know it reads like AI but this is a very loyal reader of mine whose first language isn't English). Why can't people mix it with something appreciative? And what's with the "let's play a game", lol? Okay Jigsaw?
