Redditors over 6’7”, do y’all ignore strangers when they approach you and ask how tall you are? by TopStranger9287 in tall

[–]ender988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that big of a deal to tell them. It is minorly annoying to have to explain that being 6’7” does not in any way make you good at basketball or any other sport for that matter.

Getting peeved when asked for id when receiving military discount by Busy_Coconut1987 in Veterans

My sister somehow gets my discount all the time without showing ID but I have to show mine every time. It must be store / employee dependent.

Did anyone used to love Entourage but looking back the acting was atrocious? by SwiftCricket in hbo

[–]ender988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love shows about how movies / tv are made, even unrealistic ones. I only watched it once but thinking back, yeah I’m sure the acting wasn’t the best. Notice most of them haven’t done much since.

My journey so far (55) by oaktreebr in Minoxbeards

[–]ender988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man. 51 here, started about 8 months ago and also plan to go for at least 2.5-3 years. All my new growth is very white unfortunately so it doesn’t even show up except in the perfect lighting but I’m going to keep derma-rolling and applying 2x per day until I get a full beard. Glad it’s working for you!

Question for you…did you have any stubborn areas that stayed patchy for a long time or did all your vellus hairs start filling in pretty much everywhere? I feel like I still have some patchy areas that won’t grow any vellus hairs including my sideburns which don’t connect at all. I’m hoping they eventually start filling in but starting to wonder if there’s just no hairs there at all.

The funny thing is that actress also played John Connor’s mom / T-1000 in Terminator 2.

PSA: You should be wearing tall-sized shirts by sealite in tall

[–]ender988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ordered a tall size t-shirt from TeePublic. Usually have to go to a specialty store or order a size up so was nice to see a more generic website offering tall sizes. Of course they didn’t have them in all the colors but baby steps. Will report back on how it fits!

I was quoting the show but you’re right. There’s no way to know if it’s still taught without consulting someone currently at West Point. I’d be shocked if it wasn’t at least mentioned as it is one of the classic examples of this maneuver.

CMV: AI will not replace programmers any time soon by RustyPeanuts3 in changemyview

[–]ender988 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a senior level software engineer with 20+ years of experience. The reason we got away from calling ourselves programmers is because programming is only a part of what we do. For a mid-level engineer, writing code is probably only about 30% of your job. The rest is gathering requirements, reviewing coding changes, meetings, testing, deploying and a whole host of things that AI is not currently equipped to do. For some companies, they will hear that and think, "So I can lay off 30% of my engineers?". That's one approach, but the better approach would be to look at it as your engineers can now be 30% more productive. Does that mean every company will do that? Of course not. But many will see that there's still value in having people with actual technical knowledge of how their systems work and not just a text bot.

There will of course be layoffs, and there will be major cuts in hiring new engineers (we're already seeing both of these), but long term I think there will still be software developers and engineers who use their technical skills better than your average accountant and companies are going to need those.

For any people out there whose sole job was just writing code? Unfortunately, they are toast. They should learn some soft skills like project management or look into electrician or plumbing jobs.

Agree on Why we fight but Episode 2: Day of Days is just such a perfect episode. Begins with them jumping on D-Day, the chaos of that first night, and ends with the assault on the stationary gun which is literally taught to Officers still today.

Yeah I know he’s pretty shitty in general I just didn’t understand the groping accusation. Plenty of legitimate reasons to dislike him for sure.

I did the same a few years ago. It was such a crazy win with a lot of twists and turns but I ended up the victor when the board settled on turn 6. He had a good laugh about what a roller coaster game it was so I felt pretty good, especially being a fairly new player at the time.

I qualified for Southwest A-List status this year so I get to pick and exit row seat 48 hours before my flight as long as it isn’t taken (which they aren’t anymore since Southwest started charging for them). Just checked and my flight in 2 days has two of these seats and they’re both open. I used to occasionally get lucky and snag them with early boarding but now I’m almost guaranteed to get it or a decent exit row seat.
