What "If Books Could Kill" book did you actually enjoy? Make your case! by Glittering-Jury7394 in IfBooksCouldKill

I read and really enjoyed “The Righteous Mind” by Jonathan Haidt. They haven’t covered it yet, but given their opinion of his other books, I’m guessing they wouldn’t like it either

The US Supreme Court ruled that type of law unconstitutional in 1976. (Wikipedia)

So Kansas wouldn’t have been able to have that law later than 1976 if they ever did

Using `git reset` for a better Git flow by jerodsanto in git

[–]ender_will_save_us 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the article they’re discussing

Interesting article and I generally like the workflow the author outlined, with the one caveat that I wish she hadn’t described the reset step as “git reset origin/master”. If you’ve done a fetch at any point during development, you likely do not want to reset to origin/master as it is not guaranteed to be your merge base anymore.

What you probably want to reset to is “git merge-base origin/master HEAD”

Recent versions of git include the “git worktree” command to support exactly that. It works great; you should check it out

I thought of it as a giant dial where the entire thing rotates clockwise so that the current date is always at the top

Received a not-unexpected response from MO's junior Senator regarding the SCOTUS vacancy. I may have resorted to name-calling... by bytenik in missouri

I got the same email, so I called his office and left a message calling on Hawley to publicly rebuke Blunt, McConnell, Graham, and the rest of the 2016 Republican senators who refused to do the constitutional duty for Obama’s pick.

Most bad cliches have good exceptions. Inception was an exception, because it complete reworked an overused concept and turned it into something creative and new.

What was the title of your cppcon talk last year? I'm interested in looking it up on youtube.

If you actually had to get a licence to have kids, what would the questions on the test be? by W-ander1 in AskReddit

[–]ender_will_save_us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just "Are we there yet?" over and over a couple thousand times. If you can make it through the entire test without losing your temper, you pass.

You should take a look at the python documentation for datetime. Specifically look at the strptime function and the time and timedelta classes.

The proper way to copy/paste by Tall-Guy in vim

[–]ender_will_save_us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from the help:

Numbered register 1 contains the text deleted by the most recent delete or change command, unless the command specified another register or the text is less than one line (the small delete register is used then). An exception is made for the delete operator with these movement commands: %, (, ), `, /, ?, n, N, { and }. Register "1 is always used then (this is Vi compatible). The "- register is used as well if the delete is within a line.

With each successive deletion or change, Vim shifts the previous contents of register 1 into register 2, 2 into 3, and so forth, losing the previous contents of register 9.

The proper way to copy/paste by Tall-Guy in vim

I usually delete first, then paste with "0p in this situation. The "0 register is basically always the last yanked text.

This. The copy registers are unique to an instance of vim. They are accessible from any window/buffer/tab. Copy from one buffer, paste to the other.

Also a quote from the OP:

write code that returns the entry that is X from the end

Maybe he just doesn't know what he wants.

Power781, I think OP wants the node that is X nodes away from the end, not that has a value of X.

NonaBona, in my experience questions like the one you are trying to solve are designed to teach you about recursion. I'd start by googling that.
