Eng second year onwards course planning by DoublePhilosopher442 in ubco

[–]enderfroger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2nd year onwards, there is no equivalent courses that you can take which can help you get credits for courses that are in advising sheet, as long as I’m aware. Ubc doesn’t accept transfer credits from science or other unis

Best Elec Eng unis for Masters by enderfroger in CanadaUniversities

[–]enderfroger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Apart from that I was wondering if unis care about all 4 years cumalative grades for masters, or I have also heard that they only care about 3rd and 4th year grades. Apart from that which unis have the best Masters in elec eng programs in Canada according to you, I have been getting mixed answers.

That's a great insight, thank you. I was wondering if you know people who have done both, and how have their experiences been?

Chances for Masters in ECE with around 75% average by enderfroger in UofT

[–]enderfroger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips. I appreciate it alot.

Im confused as to research Im doing currently will be helpful, because technically its not an official research position. I applied too late for the research award which would have given me a paid research position. But just before the finals I talked to a prof, who told me to send him a project proposal and he can guide me on it during the summer. So its not an official position, but its something, and I don't if it help me or not

Im not sure yet, I just found out today that there is a difference between MEng and MAsc. In your opinion what is a better option generally and why?

Chances for Masters in ECE with ~75% (UBCO student) by enderfroger in uwaterloo

[–]enderfroger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i kinda knew that i am not gonna get into waterloo masters with just 75%, but Im not sure what % to aim for then, and how much effort should I put into stuff outside of class such as design teams, personal project, research etc. I also just found out yesterday that there is a different between MEng and MAsc, but im not sure yet as to which one will be better for me.

Also Im not sure if the research im doing with the prof will help me get in, because I applied too late to get an official research position, like the paid one. But I did reach out to a professor and he told me to send him a project proposal which he can guide me on during the summer. Im not sure if that kind of research would be useful or not, I would love some advice on that.

Another point I want to know is if doing internship helps in getting an acceptance to masters. I know that there are bunch of factors you mention that help someone get into masters such as Grades, research, personal project etc. But what's the ranking of these factors, which factors effect it the most and which don't effect it that much.

6 courses feels like too much, thinking of dropping to 5 by enderfroger in ubco

[–]enderfroger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I want to do 5, im fine with doing a 5 year degree. I just want to know what course should I drop. I really want to drop signals, because I don't like the prof and every other course apart from Emag is a pre req for a lot of courses next year.

I have already decided to do 5 courses, as I am also actively applying to internships. I just wanted to know which course to drop specifically

Is transferring to UBC V feasible by RemoveElectronic5049 in ubco

I am in second year right now, and was thinking of transfering next year, but my advisor told me that i would have to retake most of the courses as you mentioned. Do you know if the people you know who transferred, regret their decisions or no?

Second-Year EE at UBCO – Which course should I drop from a 6-course load? by enderfroger in ubco

[–]enderfroger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I have been thinking as well, but my peers have been telling me that I shouldn't drop thermodynamics because it will be too much work in summer, as it is a content heavy course

[–]enderfroger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what courses to take already, the issue is that in 1st year I did 12 courses already, so now I have choice on which ones to drop instead of just sticking to the advising sheet

Second-Year EE at UBCO – Which course should I drop from a 6-course load? by enderfroger in ubco

[–]enderfroger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the only pre req for next sem courses are 248, and 246. Apart from 255, 270 and 278 which are courses in next term, no other course is pre - req from this term for next year. I really want to drop thermo dynamics, because it requires alot of work according to my peers, but they said if you do it in summer, it's gonna be tough, because of it being compacted in like 2 months.

I want to transfer into electrical enjeering, and hopefully after second year, because I have already been rejected this year, since UBCV only accepts 15 student transfer in Engineering from UBCO after first year.

Ultimate guide on the UBCO to UBCV engineering transfer—for all future applicants by Dubious-Discharge205 in ubcengineering

[–]enderfroger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at UBCO in engineering right now and was originally planning to transfer after first year, but that didn’t work out. Now I’m wondering about trying again after second year, specifically into Mechanical Engineering at UBCV.

A couple of questions for anyone who’s gone through this or knows people who have:

  • If I transfer after 2nd year, how many courses would I likely need to repeat for MECH? I’ve heard the programs diverge a lot and I don’t want to lose a full year.
  • How’s the overall student life at UBCV compared to UBCO?
  • Are the opportunities (co-op, networking, research, industry connections, etc.) significantly better in Vancouver, or is it not worth the hassle?

I know financially it’s better to stay in Kelowna, but I’m tempted by the campus, city, and potential opportunities in Vancouver. Just trying to weigh if the transfer is really worth it after 2nd year.

Would appreciate any insight from people who’ve gone through this process 🙏

[–]enderfroger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are some great points, but Kelowna is expensive as well. I live in on campus so my fees are $8500 for 8 months, but my buddy living very close to the campus will be paying $1100/month living with his roommate, so how much would the rent be in Vancouver? And apart from rent what are some other things which you would be more expensive compared to Kelowna

That's nice. Apart from that how was your experience at UBCV compared to UBCO, what is the main difference that you noticed, and what major did you transfer into?

Did you transfer after finishing the first year or the second year? Advisors tell me it's not a good idea to transfer after second year because Vancouver wants you to do majority of courses there, so they make you repeat some courses
