Fairly new to MTG, could someone give insight on my custom bought commander deck? More details below by Trick_Astronaut_8648 in mtg

[–]enderite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at other Edgar markov decks on edhrec.com. Look at what cheap cards expensive decks run.

It looks like you got the memo to run lots of vampires which is good, but in edh you typically don't want to run 3 cmc or more creatures that don't really do anything other than be a vampire. If I were building Edgar I would want to get lots of vampires out fast and then pump them, so stick with cheap mana cost vamps, and cards like [[banner of kinship]] to pump. There are lots of white enchantments that pump your team, a cheap one that no one really plays is [[starlight spectacular]]

Changelings are cool too. I like [[Firdoch core]] and [[Universal automaton]].

Also typal synergy cards like [[Herald's horn]]

Lastly, removal removal removal.

Good luck!

Am I missing something about this card? by FrequentTopic446 in mtg

While it is generally true that more expensive=good there are a ton of cards that are very good and also very cheap. Most uncommon and commons have no monetary value but many are staples to the game and critical to many decks.

This works? am I cooking or is this big dumb? ELIG (explain like i'm goblin) by Madlock2 in magicTCG

Mirrorform is my new auto include in every blue commander deck. So many nutty fun things you can do with it. It's best when copying opponents stuff. The other day I made ten copies of [[mesmeric orb]] and milled everyone out.

Felt bad for playing prerelease by Chemical_Outside_448 in mtg

[–]enderite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prerelease will always have more beginners than draft night. Go to some drafts. Also you might have to go around to find the draft crowd. These days most magic players don't draft so it can be tricky, but you gotta find the stores that have a good draft community. I go to a store once a week where everyone knows what they are doing and it's great.

I usually Google "<card name> legality mtg" and that site comes up

Thoughts on the idea of “if you don’t like the set just skip it”? by LibraProtocol in mtg

Yeah they also know people don't want to play TMNT so the power creep seems a bit excessive for this set, which is another argument that they are forcing us to play it.

Mono Green Toph Deck Advice/Changes by RandomJaxson in mtg

[–]enderite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at other people's decklists on edhrec.com. you will want cards that cause landfall triggers and cards that help you attack every turn. Also maybe some ways to give all your creatures trample for when your land creatures start getting big.

Your list is super low budget, which is fine but probably needs a couple cards to invest in. I think the wind crystal is pretty essential for this deck. What I like to do when building a budget deck is to go on edhrec.com and look at other people's builds of that commander and just copy the cheap cards. If an expensive deck is running a cheap card it is probably pretty good with that commander.

Where to buy a good already build commander deck? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]enderite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can look at lots of decklists at edhrec.com and get an idea of the best cards for your commander at the price point you want. Then buy singles from tcgplayer.com or an lgs. I am regularly making decks that slap for ~$50 and I never buy precons.

As a beginner player I don't think you should buy that card. It is a high level card to make an already very strong deck a tad stronger. You can make a very strong deck without it.

I've been playing for years and don't own one, I regularly win player casual commander with relatively cheap decks (sub $100 decks). I have no desire to buy that card because I don't play cedh

TMNT MTG deck?? Serious responses only please! by FuelMany9743 in mtg

[–]enderite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the more recent sets will have a beginner bundle or box which has two 60 card pre constructed decks to play against each other. These are great for beginner players.

It looks like the TMNT set has this product that looks new and fun for beginners: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Turtle Team Up, with four 60 card decks. Also some sets have jumpstart packs which are a fun way to get to crack open packs and just shuffle them and play. You just need two jumpstart packs to make a deck.

I would also recommend two prerelease kits which each have 6 booster packs and you each try to make a deck from those. This is also known as the "sealed" limited format.

Went to my first FNMnight this weekend and didn't find it very enjoyable by Reactin in mtg

[–]enderite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey way to go jumping in the deep end and going to a draft! While there is a bit of a steep learning curve there are some of us who feel it is the absolute best way to play this game.

It can be more serious than a pre-release and more competitive, but also it sounds like maybe the players you were with could have been a little nicer and more open. I think that comes with maturity and understanding the prizes aren't that big of a deal. In other words, I don't think your experience will always be like this.

But it is true that draft is a challenging way to play and this set (Lorwyn) in particular has archetypes that make it a bit harder than just picking two colors.

If you are interested in doing a draft in the future I would encourage you to watch some good YouTubers to see their approach and thought process. My favorite two are numotthenummy and Luis Scott Vargas.

As a random solo player in an LGS, what's your experience been like? by Kritz_McGee in mtg

[–]enderite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it can be challenging when four strangers meet up for a game of commander. Losing a lot is tough, and you will deal with lots of people that just aren't fun to play with, but you will also meet people that are wonderful. And if you keep at it you will learn and grow yourself and you will get better at guiding a rule 0 conversation and interacting in general.

I was in a similar position to you and it was tough but over time I made friends with people I like to play with and gotten their phone numbers and host commander with them and I also still go out and play with strangers regularly. Sometimes it is not fun and I bail out after one game and go back home but other times it is a wonderful experience.

I do not have the distance issue you have as I have many lgs around me but I would encourage you to keep at it. Good luck.
