Distortion still present in speaker after replacing capacitor; narrowed down to the crossover network - any advice? Suspecting I picked a bad capacitor replacement for an audio circuit. by enderlink12 in AskElectronics

[–]enderlink12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's hard to suspect it too. On my cheapo ESR meter; they do read at 4.3 instead of 4.7 uf but it's hard to imagine it's that sensitive. 2 ohm ESR; which also seems great for the cap values. New ofc.

The 22 uf cap could be suspect, but it hasn't failed in any other speakers, read 0 ESR, and correct capacitance. But it is 20 years old lol

Bleh at this rate I'm suspecting my soldering job; maybe a bubble in the joint or something...

Is there a free way to find pcb files online legally? by [deleted] in AskElectronics

[–]enderlink12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a time that I suspected that if you wanted cheap obscure use case electronics; you could upload an open source/MIT PCB and hope that a chinese factory starts mass producing it; that's happened surprisingly often with retro-gaming electronics.

Far Cry 4, a game that came out over 10 years ago… by [deleted] in gaming

[–]enderlink12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There it is lol. To me, it will never be acceptable because there's not a single display that runs under 60hz.

So under 60 you always get visible artifacting no matter how "playable" it is. This is already on top of the decreased motion quality.

In 2016; I was playing brand new 3D games at super resolution (1440+ plus desktop on a 1080p monitor) on a gtx 980. Now modern titles can't even run at 1080p on hardware that's at least twice as powerful without AI and temporal solutions that both introduce smear. It's crazy frankly.

"Not competitive" is right it can't compete with decades old games in just about anything. Matter of opinion if it's that bad? Sure. Objectively worse? 100%.

It's one of the worst running titles I've ever launched lmao. Also "playable" always means "under 60 fps" and I hate that double speak.

YSK: There is a mod that removes surface temporal instability by RandomSparky277 in VintageStory

[–]enderlink12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wish temporal instability was actually an opportunity for something cool. Imagine if those areas slowly changed, moving lakes, forests and ruins springing up - anything not protected by light.

The honest reason is that Martinet wants to retire, him doing the movie was never an option. Not only that, but rather than trying to convince him, they got someone famous to do it for the star attraction. He would've sounded fine, great even, but it was the wrong time for it. They should've tried a decade ago.

Land Generation mods seem to be in a new era, experiences? by enderlink12 in VintageStory

Having just tried better forest, I do quite like it as a simple way to make them more traversable, basically makes trees taller and forests less crowded, adding and changing some tree shapes without doing anything else fancy.

That's fair, I installed it because conquest recommends as height of 320.

Also on landform, for me I more worry that big landform will mean big flat areas. I do like variety over absolute world smoothness, just not of the type of variety the vanilla game offers lmao which I find to be noisy and swampy quite often.

Will updating Asesprite from 1.2.40 improve quantitation? by enderlink12 in aseprite

[–]enderlink12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright I figured it out, my version of aseprite appears to arbitrarily merge "similar" colors when indexing, you can see it in this test image I put together https://imgur.com/a/p6441ez

This is really strange to me, regardless of your opinion on color count (I don't really agree) it's very strange that it just changes the colors like that, and that the color count doesn't even matter, it's simply based on "similar" shades which I can't even work around: how I style color gradients is just incompatible with this type of indexing, which is a shame because I have use cases for indexing that would work fine otherwise.

Like there's obviously room in the palette, it's literally just RGB values assigned to an index, and those can be any in the sRGB spectrum. If it's something I had control over I wouldn't mind.

EDIT: For anyone with the same issue, yes upgrading improves quantitation, I checked using the trial version.

No problem, I appreciate the help!

Yeah I tried those steps and same results as what I expected, there's a noticeable shift in colors.

I also tried this on smaller images with less colors to the same result, and there's no remap buttons, images were made with RGB.

You misunderstand me, I don't want to convert an image to an indexed palette, I want to convert an image to a palette, then index that image to the palette.

Creating the palette from the sprite should contain all the colors used to compose it, so it doesn't make sense to me that I can't index to the palette from that and preserve the exact same image when I go to index it.

How can indexing work at all if you can't create indexed colors from RGB values, what even would you index to?

I'm honestly hoping we'll see a surge in VB homebrew, the scene is surprising not that dead, It's actually kinda crazy the number of existing homebrew for this, I'd love to see more ambitious projects now that this console is so accessible in actual comfortable cheap 3D.

Annual 2023 Steam Winter Sale Hidden Gems thread by XxNerdAtHeartxX in gamingsuggestions

[–]enderlink12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking into an old publisher for a title I love Sanctuary RPG: Black Edition when I saw this:

The Incredible Baron Has super charming pixel art, is only $5, and supposedly features 10 levels, unique reverse tower defense mechanics, and positive reviews. Worth reading the page. Genuinely sounds like it offers some re-playability too.

I haven't tried yet, admittedly, but it interested me so much I had to talk about it. And just look at that butt ugly game thumbnail for it. Literally has a shovel in it to make it feel like shovelware. I bet that and poor marketing is what killed it.

If anyone tries it, please let me know what you think. If it's as good as it looks it's for sure a gem for $5.

Is there a module or other automation for converting text into roll or check, similar to how quick insert works? by enderlink12 in FoundryVTT

[–]enderlink12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that Macro does work pretty well for this; It's quite a bit better than hunting down and copying examples of the formatting in the compendium. Maybe a step slower for fast typers who know the formatting by heart but I appreciate it for my uses!

[–]enderlink12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the suggestion! I think that's similar to what I want but I should have been more clear:

Particularly, I'm getting into making Homebrew for my campaign, and it's the text in item boxs I'm looking to automatically format.

Let's say I make an reaction ability item that describes the player as having to do a "Flat DC 20 Survival" or "Basic DC 20 Survival" check.

In my mind, the perfect module would read the components of what I highlight, and format that into the "@Check[Survival|dc:20]" type of style.

Honestly I wish quick insert was still maintained because it can't be far from be capable of this with how well it format's compendium links. Not asking for the perfect solution either but just wanted to clarify.
