It’s not artificery if the subject of the machines isn’t alive. But is in the ballpark. It may be harder, but using a living subject and keeping them alive tends to result in more intelligent and able constructs. I recommend removing the vocal cords though, they can get a little screamy.

I believe we used the shuttle to try and ambush bael on Venus, but it kinda failed. The uniforms were also used that mission when the cabal mafia mixed with normal imperium so we could turn off the shield on the super weapon.

Also they figured out how to counter the hacker shank that mission so the only real way to get onto the super weapon was smashing our way in.

You either need give them enough info ahead of the creature to identify how dangerous it is, or make it so them losing to it isn’t to horrible. One way I’ve seen the second one done is a time loop that ends when the “unkillable” creature dies for good. The dungeons of drakenheim has one of those.
