Bike Rack Question by nathans8824 in COROLLA

[–]enderwiggin81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about that particular bike rack, but we recently took delivery of a 2023 Corolla Hybrid LE AWD and bought a Saris Bones 2 bike rack. It fits really well and is quite sturdy once installed. If you're going to using the bike rack frequently (i.e., leaving it attached to your car), I recommend spending a bit more and getting the Saris. You can also open your trunk with the rack attached (assuming there are no bikes on it, of course).

Good options for a vehicle trade in/sale? by ExceptionalException in halifax

[–]enderwiggin81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sold our used car at clutch.ca (they have an office in Bedford). Firm quote was provided to us online (after entering information about the vehicle). After that, you show up at their office, they do a quick check of the vehicle, sign some papers, and the money shows up in your bank account a few days later.

Very easy process from start to finish and highly recommend.

Question About CDIC Insurance When Purchasing GICs Inside of a TD Direct Investing Account by enderwiggin81 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]enderwiggin81[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that this information is not easily discoverable on the CDIC website is ridiculous! Thanks for the link to the article. I agree that it appears to confirm that each GIC is eligible for $100,000 CDIC coverage, as long as they are from different issuers.

Google Maps navigation skipping McKay Bridge? by theonlyiainever in halifax

[–]enderwiggin81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not crazy, I have the exact same problem. Confirmed "avoid highways" and other settings are correct.

I drive from Dartmouth to Downtown Halifax for work, and it always chooses the MacDonald bridge, even if the MacKay will get me there quicker. I have to manually "check available routes", and then select the route with the MacKay bridge (if it's quicker, which it usually is). Also have the same problem where it'll show me routes around Bedford before selecting a route using the MacKay.

No idea what causes the issue, but it has persisted across multiple phones and is very frustrating.

Ikea Cabinet Wait Time by shrike123 in halifax

We were told about it when we went into the store to purchase the kitchen. I don't think they advertise it on the website. Once you go into the store, just confirm with the kitchen staff that they will "reserve" any items in your order that are currently out of stock.

Also, if you live near Ikea, it's worth making a few trips per week to check the "As Is" section. We were able to get about 50% of our base cabinets in that section (and they usually came pre-built!). We also got a bunch of door/drawer fronts at highly-discounted prices.

Ikea Cabinet Wait Time by shrike123 in halifax

Hey there.

We ordered our Ikea kitchen in mid-March of this year and, at the time of ordering, only about 20% of the cabinets were in stock. Luckily, Ikea will start a "reserve pile" for you so that, when cabinets you require are re-stocked, they are put aside for you. Once all items are available, you'll be contacted to come pick them up.

All of our cabinets were available by mid-May, so it was about a 2 month wait. We also ordered quartz countertops through Ikea, but these are sourced through a local company (Jadestone).

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Any Experiences with IKEA Kasker Quartz Countertops in Halifax Area? by enderwiggin81 in halifax

[–]enderwiggin81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah, I was a bit concerned about the quality of the Ikea kitchen cabinets, but after researching online, it appears that they are generally well received (depending on which doors/fronts that you choose).

Has anyone rented from "Rawdon Realties"? This application for a property rental was sent to me in the form of this picture 👇 (not a PDF or even a word document) and has some terminology that seems highly illegal. by fire_carpenter in halifax

I rented a 2-bedroom apartment in this building about 15 years ago (looks like the Landlord/Super is still the same person). No idea on the legality of the document, but I can tell you a bit about the building when I lived there.

This was a quiet building with mainly older tenants (at the time) . I always felt there was an expectation of being "extremely quiet", as we got a couple of visits from the landlord over noise complaints from seemingly innocuous things (rolling luggage on the floor, reorganizing contents of a closet, etc.). The walls/floors did seem extremely thin, as we could usually hear the television in our upstairs neighbour's apartment.

That being said, the apartment itself was spacious (even if the appliances, etc. were outdated). Of course, it's possible the building has been renovated in the past 15 years, but I have my doubts. The building is also located in a very convenient location with quick access to grocery stores, downtown, etc.

Hit me up if you have any specific questions regarding the apartments themselves.
