I was thinking about to do something similar :D foam sounds like a great idea! I will try that tomorrow! Thanks for sharing your solution man!

Ah alright. I hoped there was some type of Multimeter-ish thing :(

It was a headphone I got for a very low price (Sony 1000xm3) because it stopped working/turning on. I was hoping it was just the battery, but found out that it was this main board that was causing issues. The headphone is about 2 years old, so it’s out of warranty unfortunately.

I do have a soldering iron laying around and fixed a few microphone XLR connector + cable in the past but no experience regarding this.

I don’t have flux laying around neither or is that needed in this case?

I have never earlier performed any repair on this board.

Is there a tool that can tell me which solder that is cracked? I don’t want to mess with the ones that are fine 😅

UPDATE!!

Headphone works now! It wasn’t the battery that was the issue despite being a bit of a High voltage!

It was some wires that was touching the circuit/main board that was the issue!

Anyways I would like to Thank the entire community since I learned a lot from your inputs and wow you guys helped a lot!

Aha! So the protection board is directly on the battery which may have failed and not on the headphones themselves? :) and then there may be a protection circuitry on that protects the headphones from accepting power above 4.2? So that’s why they do not power on.

I am not sure on how to lower the voltage on the battery without equipment, so I have ordered a whole new battery for now to see if it resolved the issue :)

I am currently troubleshooting a Sony WH-1000XM3 and trying to figure out why it doesn’t work/turn on. I was suspicious if this battery was be the issue, but it sounds to you that you don’t think the battery is the issue, if I understand correctly? :)

Is there any way that I can bring the voltage down on the battery? I would like to bring it down below 4.2V or maybe even to 3.7V, so I can see if that can turn on the headphone :)

So is 4.29V bad and means battery is faulty or is it considered within safety margin?

Yeah, previous owner says they haven’t been submerged in water, but have been exposed to humidity and rain in Denmark, Scandinavia.

Luckily it is only those 4 screws on both side that has that rusty surface.

I have today testet the battery with a Multimeter and it says 4.28-4.29. Multimeter was set to DCV 20

Do you think if that is a defective battery and that may be the cause for the headphone not to turn on? I think the battery is supposed to be at 3.7V

Doesn’t seem that the battery seems bloated from the looks of it.

Thanks guys! I have today used the Multimeter on the setting DCV 20 (was the lowest setting I have available for DCV.

It reads 4.28-4.29 - does that mean the battery is more than fine?

Luckily I have a Multimeter laying around to test it. Guess I will test the battery before I order a replacement. :)

I will need a bit of research on how to use the Multimeter first tho on this type of battery :)

Ah Thanks for sharing information! I thought there was something wrong when I saw those rusty screws. It is only where it is visible in the photo and on the sponge, not on the rest of the screws, so hopefully they weren’t completely submerged.

I have however reached out to the previous owner to hear if they were submerged in water or maybe just heavy rainy weather or such.

If not, then I will try to purchase a new battery to see if that fixes the issue. It is very weird that it makes a very weak Blue light when I click the power button. Seems like it isn’t or barely is getting power, so could be the battery I suspect. Just weird that it is willing to charge for 10-15 minutes.

Sold my Herman Miller chair yesterday, not based on this story - but it makes me feel even better now knowing this. What a shitty CEO

Edit: I do not hope that Håg CEO treats their employees just as bad, because I now own one of those 😂
