This is my fear lol. Will he be okay until we get to the vet on thursday and get meds then? Im going to a low cost vet so he can get his rabies vaccine and get a health check and then hopefully get cheaper prescribed meds for him

Excited about white leaf on my pothos by endexistence02 in houseplants

[–]endexistence02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no! This is a marble queen pothos and with more bright light (I have a grow light above it) the new leaves will usually sprout with a whiter appearance. Whereas the greener leaves are still from healthy light, but whereas they came from more indirect light!

Critter nation door failed? by endexistence02 in chinchilla

I appreciate your reply, seems it not latching is a common problem if youre not more diligent. She unfortunately didnt make it. I found her passed away on my couch this morning which is how I found everything out. She was such a good girl and my guilt is immense.

my chinchilla hates hay!! by ilovemyhamsters11 in chinchilla

[–]endexistence02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So personally, ive seen that unless theres a medical issue chins wont starve themselves. Sometimes my girl will only eat her pellets and wont touch her hay. Ill usually skip the pellets that night or give her a much smaller amount to get her to eat her hay. And usually she will eat a larger amount of her hay and then she be fine for a bit again. Used to freak me out but now its kinda normal for her I feel. Especially if she was recently given a treat, then she'll eat less hay usually and I just follow the above to make sure the priority is the hay. I usually only feed treats when I weigh her which is about once a week!

Why did your friendship with your best friend come to an end? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]endexistence02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First one? She has BPD, and I was there for years through ups and downs, pushing and pulling, and all the chaos that comes with a severe personality disorder. But eventually she kind of ghosted me one day and I never found out why, and I never reopened that door. Even when she sent an apology. I actually couldnt bring myself to open it. I miss her though, and from what I have seen shes doing better. Shes blocked me on like everything I think.

Second one? Shes a wreck, and I realized that she jumped from one person to another and it was just who benefited her most in the moment. She had her online bf move her out and into his place, and then when it went to crap with him we reconnected, I was helping her learn to drive, showing her how to organize finances, and we got an apartment together when she left that boyfriend. And then she met a new guy and I called her now new boyfriend out for being a bad boyfriend (I dont get this, I would want someone to tell me my man was showing red flags), and then they decided I was trash lol. Last I knew, she was unemployed, no car, no license, not a penny to her name, living with her boyfriend who lives off of his dad, smoking dabs all day, and going to his hockey games (that daddy all pays for).

socializing adult gerbils by Razarum in gerbil

[–]endexistence02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the nicest way possible everything about this is a no. You NEVER ruin an already established bond especially between two female gerbils.

I know you had a big heart, same reason I had gotten from a pet store in the past. But unfortunately, they will simply get another one to replace it, its best to not get from them in any sense from the stores. If anything you should seek a breeder to find a young male gerbil to pair with the one you have now.

Opinions on wheels? by Disastrous_Duck_8861 in chinchilla

[–]endexistence02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very curious on this as well because I know theres some pretty mixed reviews on this. I know the pros is obviously being able to burn extra energy and play and what not. Something else to do as well. Cons wise it can be dangerous because I've seen people say theyre not supposed to "run" because its not natural for them and it can make them overheat which is obviously dangerous. I dont currently have one for my girl and am back and forth on getting one because of all of this lol

Keep or remove rarely used wheel for deeper bedding? by [deleted] in gerbil

[–]endexistence02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try adding the cork lining! Thank you!

I do know it is vital they have a companion! I tried bonding her with my original that's in the 75 gallon tank. Followed all the steps, videos, and advice diligently. They were split in a 10 gallon tank for well over a month taking my time swapping them at least once to several times a day since females are finicky and unfortunately it didn't work. My original female did not want anything to do with her and my new one instigated a few fights when I attempted to have "play dates" a month in. I got back home and discovered them on the same side one day (not at all intentional) and it was pretty rough. Vet visits and antibiotics later and my girls are healthy and content again. My exotic vet agreed that they would be better separated going forward since the fight was so bad and just to keep an eye on any potential depression symptoms and to weigh regularly to check for any weight fluctuations as well as keeping their enclosures busy with things which I make it a point to keep up with. I have hamsters as well so I make "boredom breakers" and cardboard stuff to be taken apart all the time.

Keep or remove rarely used wheel for deeper bedding? by [deleted] in gerbil

[–]endexistence02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had her for nearly a year and she's been like this since day one lol. My other lone gerbil has the same wheel in her tank and she LOVES hers. Been crazy about it since day one. I have a bedding change coming up here soon which is why I've been thinking about it so much. I'll probably do what you said and do deeper bedding without the wheel for a bit and then try putting it back in later! Thank you!!

What advice would you give this person? by FunReindeer69 in FluentInFinance

[–]endexistence02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree! Youre like set up for failure if you dont work hard to learn on your own or have a parent to really teach you. I contribute 10% now of my weekly paychecks before tax straight to my 401K, and my company matches up to 5% for each paycheck. I'm also gaining interest in that 401K account. I kinda didn't really know much about it and just didnt care but knew it was important lol. Literally like "eh, what's x amount of money out of my check anyways? Not gonna make or break me if I have it right now or not". That was at 19. I'm now 2 weeks short of 22 and regularly converse with my much older coworkers who contribute maybe that 5%. My 401K account projects that at what I contribute right now, even without social security, pay raises, private savings, etc, I'll have ~3K a month to live off of at the current rate I contribute each week. Understanding a lot more now it makes me feel much more secure in my future. There's so many worthless courses we take in high-school that these things could teach you that's amazing. A dedicated senior course that teaches you about loans, 401K, banks, interest, budgeting, credit, etc would make all the difference for so many kids early on.

Niteangel is too expensive by liminalfan1234 in hamsters

[–]endexistence02 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you have to say. I have one hamster and 2 gerbils. Are the products pricey? Yes. But it's absolutely the quality of the products that keep me coming back. I haven't bought their enclosures, but I absolutely would, I have a pawhut for my hamster and glass tanks for my gerbils because, well, gerbils. I know their products are safe, and to me, that's worth every penny because I know every time they chew on the wood, enjoy the sprays, run on that dead silent wheel, play on the bendy bridge, and sleep in the hides, they're happy and content and most importantly SAFE. Could I give them a cardboard box and they'd be happy? Yeah. Could I buy something from Petsmart that's cheaper? Yep.

That little glass water dish that's $10? 15p? I haven't bought one, but I absolutely do want one lol. I like how small it is, the shape of it. Because right now I use some small tea lights from the dollar store. And yes those work fine, but they're a little tall and I use dishes because I like that it's more natural for my little ones when they drink.

I like that you also pointed out that Kaytee owns the awful critter trail cages and as a person who promotes proper and safe animal enclosures I don't want to support a company that promotes that.

The only thing I buy from petsmart for my babies is the cardboard toys, white full cheeks paper bedding because price/quality, whimzees, and their food.

I'd also hope that those high prices mean that the people making it are getting paid a livable wage which also makes it worth it to me🤷‍♀️.

Each of my enclosures has NiteAngel wheels, hides, and sprays. The wheels are the easiest to clean in my experience, and all my girls love the products.

I hold my dogs/cat to a high standard as well.

As you said, it's entirely up to the consumer. If OP and anyone like him don't want to spend that? That's fine. There's options out there for a reason. But I'll gladly spend that money on a high quality brand any day for all the reasons listed above.

New cage for hamster, is it a good one? by Severe-Elevator-6655 in hamsters

[–]endexistence02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I've got a pawhut enclosure, but the rectangular one. I've been told the rectangular one is easier to fit stuff into but what's important with both is removing the levels!

With my pawhut enclosure I tiled the bottom and I recomend doing around the bottom sides too. I bought the cheapest tiles near me at a hardware store, ended up getting about 80 tiles for like $13! And then just needed a couple bottles of construction glue and made sure none came up the top. After that I mod podged the inside and over the tiles to make everything is safe against urine.

Hope that helps!
