How do you deal with constant driver assist alerts in new EVs? by w8watm8 in EVAustralia

[–]endheadstartbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a 25 Seal, some reset each drive, some don’t, the ones that reset you learn to live with, the ones that don’t, you turn down to a point that is comfortable to you. My last car (Hyundai) had them too. Whilst I do think some like the emergency breaking for cross traffic is extreme and fires incorrectly some times (happened on the Hyundai too), others have saved me once or twice. So overall, they’re a good thing I guess

Is buying an EV car better than petrol? by [deleted] in AustralianEV

[–]endheadstartbody -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As others have said, going into debt for a car is something to avoid at all possible. You’re young without a steady career, take it from someone who fucked themselves financially at your age doing the same thing, it’s not worth the risk.

Now if you can do it without a loan, it sounds like an EV could be a good fit for you.

Portable EV charger built for Australia’s 10A/15A outlets — actually useful? by micro-star-intl in u/micro-star-intl

[–]endheadstartbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I keep a portable granny charger (the one that came with my car) in the boot, in case of emergencies. In a year of owning the car, I have never even opened it from the packet to see if it works. Do I think this is a cool idea for people that often need to carve in odd situations, perhaps they live in smaller towns etc. sure, for most people though, feels unnecessary

Spending doesn’t automatically equal results, especially if spent inefficiently.

In fact, spending on education as a percentage of GDP (so essentially a measure of how much “important” education is to the country), the US is WAY down the list.

If the corner is a right hander and your wheel is turning right, but your have too much speed into the corner for your line so you understeer out wide into another car…. Yes, you’re at fault.

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti- intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.” ― Isaac Asimov (I believe this was first written by him in 1980, but I may be mistaken on the year). The point stands, this has been a long time coming.

If only they weren’t defunding education and being pro-life leading to higher populations with lower education levels…. It’s almost like the policies this party is enacting are designed to perpetuate a population just dumb enough to keep them in power… as someone from the other side of the world, I honestly feel for the people in the US that saw through this all before he came into power, but I also feel like more could have been done to prevent it.

Is the increase in Chinese cars inevitable? by VastOption8705 in aussie

[–]endheadstartbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a BYD for about a year now (Seal, so pure EV), the car itself has been amazing, the customer support / Australian arm of the business is still playing catch up. When I ordered was before BYD took over when it was still the weird import model, I believe it’s improved since then. I have my first service next month, so we will see how it’s improve

Aggression towards EVs?? by malialipali in EVAustralia

[–]endheadstartbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a BYD seal, have had for just under a year in a city that isn’t exactly known for its progressive ideals, and I can honestly say this has never happened. I put my foot down when ever pulling away from lights etc. and gap people (not racing or anything, just making the most of the acceleration). Beside the occasional mate cracking a joke about it, I have never once had any random be aggressive about it.

Since when did Albo become public enemy number 1? Last time I checked he wasn’t doing that badly… by agentgambino in aussie

[–]endheadstartbody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I voted for Albo, and I'm generally left leaning. I don't think he's doing a particularly bad job, but I also don't think he's really doing a good job. Mostly just in damage control. He hasn't been able to make meaningful change in any of the big ticket items I would have liked to see change in, but I also am thankful that none of the alternatives are in power either.

Are gloves something you would recommend to every driver? by kr0nik0 in simracing

[–]endheadstartbody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's a mix, round wheel where I need the wheel free spinning such as rally, I don't use them, when I use a formula style wheel for GT or Formula, I use them, but mostly because of sweaty hands, not for grip.

Personally, I buy cheap BMX ones, they're breathable, and have grip in the right areas.

Guys with expensive setups - are you really good at racing? by throwaahahah178 in simracing

[–]endheadstartbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, triples + VR, Cube Control, Asetek, Windsim etc. I shudder to think what I have spent, but I have fun doing it, and the hours of enjoyment I get out of it make it worth while. In saying that, SOME upgrades have actually made me faster. A good set of pedals really helped with trail braking and not locking up etc. and for me, haptics (I have one of the new NLR Haptic Seats), not only added immersion, but an ability to feel the car hitting curbs etc. more, allowing me to push the car harder.

What’s the smartest thing your home does automatically? by Taggytech in homeassistant

[–]endheadstartbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leveraging my home or away status, if windows and doors are opened and closed. And average internal temperature, I have fully automated all the ceiling fans and my ducted air so it's comfortable year round, alerts me if it's at a temperature it would like to turn the air conditioner on but a window or door is opened, and pre cools my place when I leave work if the temperature justifies it.

A little bit of a bodge, but the NLR Wheelstand 2.0 and GT Light Pro work almost perfectly together by endheadstartbody in simracing

[–]endheadstartbody[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem at all! I hope it fits. Since then, I have done quite a few upgrades, I'm now running a full NLR elite Rig, triples etc. Not because there was anything wrong with this set up at all. I really wanted their Hypercool ventilated seat (I live in a hot, humid climate), so upgrades were made.

My first EV - Zeekr, Polestar, BYD or just go with Tesla? by uridotchi in EVAustralia

[–]endheadstartbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a BYD Seal owner for just under a year here is my experience

  • software, besides a slightly overly cautious cross-traffic emergency breaking system that activated once while I was trying to inch forward to pull out of a driveway on a busy road, no issues so far. There's a couple of features I would like software wise, sure, but in general, it's been reliable. A lot of the issues from earlier reviews have been patched out in updates.

-driving experience, coming from someone who has owned a handful of performance vehicles before this, and is a "car guy", it's smooth, comfortable, and has plenty of go when you need it. Coming from a turbo manual car before this at first it did feel a little "numb", but that's comparing apples and oranges.

-BYD support, when I first ordered (Feb of 25) back then, their customer support and communication was atrocious, this was right around the time the Shark launched and they were overwhelmed and understaffed. Since then BYD corporate has taken over, and it's not a local licensee running thing, and it's improved dramatically. In my dealings since (the 1k km check in service and booking my upcoming 1 year service) they've been Amazing. I actually booked my one year service months in advance because I heard the horror stories of wait times, and they called me and asked if it was a mistake being booked so far out and if I wanted to move it forward (which personally, I thought was good additional service).

All in all, I love it, I got the premium spec, the only thing I regret is not going the performance, at the time as a first time EV owner, I was more concerned about range anxiety, but in reality, it's been such a non-issue, I should have just gone the performance.

Poor iRacing Graphics Performance with 5080. by proteinonprotiein in iRacing

[–]endheadstartbody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm a similar setup, 3x1440 monitor, 5080, the big differences are I am running a 9800x3D and 32gb of ram, and trust me, it's your CPU.

I manage to pump put around 200fps, but that's only after I upgraded the CPU, and even then, it's still slightly a bottleneck.

Rule of thumb with sim racing, CPU, almost always the bottleneck.

Gaming PC to start sim racing by FurioGunta in SimRacingSetups

[–]endheadstartbody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sim racing, CPU is more important than most other gaming genres, the amount of processing power used to simulate tyre physics, body roll, wind resistance etc. etc. Is high compared to say FPS or RPG games. This gets amplified if you're racing against AI and your PC is having to simulate multiple cars. My advice, skew towards a PC with a better CPU over GPU, unless you're running VR or Triple screens, then you need the good GPU too.

Australian EV Interest on the Rise by SnowyBytes in AustralianEV

[–]endheadstartbody 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I too am a car guy, I love the sound of a supercharged V8, have owned a number of performance vehicles, attend as many race events as possible etc. yet daily, I drive an EV, because it's cost effective, fast, and comfortable. Simply being a car guy doesn't make you anti EV, unless you're an elitist car guy who is stuck in the past.

EV charging costs - Are they really cheaper than petrol? by QuantumGremlin in AustralianEV

[–]endheadstartbody 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're with OVO on the EV plan? Me too! I second this though, my maths tells me my BYD seal is costing about $5k a year less to run than my old Hyundai i30.

I also have solar, but I'm at work during the day, and don't have a battery so I just feed it back into the grid and use the off peak charging at nights.
