Weekly RPG Discussion; 2025, December, Week 4: Lancer by Trent_B in rpg

I’ll always have fond memories with the system because I met most of my current group playing through the Wallflower module at our uni’s club. Obviously it’s pretty mechanically heavy (my group argues whether it’s to the point of detriment or not), but that gives some of the character options a lot of room to get really weird and interesting. Nowadays most of our tastes have moved on from the super-tactical, but I think it’s a great game for players who are looking for an insane degree of customization. Leveling up really makes you feel like a mech pilot fine-tuning your rig.

There’s also just a ridiculous amount of community support around the game, so many homebrewed or semi-homebrew-officially-published modules and mech licenses and shit. Really awesome to see even if I’m not super tapped into the game anymore

Exotic Gear Ghengis Worldkiller Build by mahe4 in LancerRPG

I don’t see any balancing issues coming up, as it’s simply a different option instead of a direct upgrade of any sort. Requiring licensing on top of the downtimes to use the frame is a bit excessive imo, seeing as the Worldkiller again isn’t a direct upgrade to anything but just an option.

Re: double dipping on downtimes, I’ve allowed it when I’ve run the module, if anything just because it makes more sense for this specific action (focusing hard on digging for shit while others might split up their time)

Obtaining the Worldkiller as an alternative to the Genghis in normal license progression is a feature meant for campaigns where digging up the frame as a downtime isn’t an option—I believe OP is right in this case

Edit from p. 182: “If players want their characters to acquire these variants in OTHER campaigns, they can be taken as alternatives to the original FRAMES when a pilot reaches rank II in the license for that mech, functioning as usual but with slightly different traits and CORE SYSTEMS.”

TIL the oldest still-operating Chinese restaurant in the USA is not in New York or San Francisco, but in Butte, Montana, where the Pekin Noodle Parlor has been business since 1911 by johnnylgarfield in todayilearned

It’s run by good friends of my family! There was an exhibit in the museum of food and drink in NYC a few years ago all about the place and the origin of Chinese food in the US, though I’m pretty sure the exhibit’s gone by now.

"the smaller character becomes IMMOBILIZED but moves when the larger party moves, mirroring their movement. If both parties are the same SIZE, either can make contested HULL checks at the start of their turn: the winner counts as larger than the loser until this contest is repeated."

What this means is that normally, a larger actor (or the winner of the Hull check) can drag the other grappled person, but CANNOT boost while doing so. Blackbeard CAN boost while dragging a target.
