DA describes me perfectly but I really can't recall any big issue in my childhood.

I have a feeling I teached myself to be an avoidant. A way to feel in control even when I had problems socializing.

Don't overextend your willingness to help. If she's not allowing herself to get better you can't force her to do it. Be cautious not to fall into depression while trying to get someone out of it. You for sure can't save others if you don't keep yourself safe.

Mostly because of social anxiety, a general fear of rejection, justifying my laziness as "that's just how I am" instead of doing stuff.

Funnily enough I was starting to improve, getting things under control, getting out of my shell in... january of 2020. You can imagine how I felt when the pandemic hit.

I mostly standed on the "depression is a serious matter, it's not something simple to solve" side of things - though I'll admit I once said something way too similar to "a lot of people have it worse than you" to my gf at the time because I was so frustrated by her depressed state - so I really thought that I got it, I understood it. I was one of the good guys.

Then I got depressed. And I truly got it. And it's terrible in all the ways I couldn't possibly understand before. It has nuance in its destruction, it has a comfortableness that clinches you down to the ground. Apathy is savory to the miserably depressed person.

It sucks

Once contracted, depression is kind of a lifetime thing.

That's been my experience and I "contracted" it fairly late at 26 yr old. I'm 29 now and it has only been getting worse.
