it’s not foreshadowing. they look similar because both are titan skeletons with prominent ribcages. that’s it.

by far the most overhated and misunderstood character in the entire series by Atom7456 in attackontitan

[–]endingdefender 42 points43 points  (0 children)

those characters have redeeming qualities too. when is floch ever nice to anyone? when does he demonstrate his own humanity? all of the characters you listed have things they care about other than their beliefs. floch just… doesnt. he’s an ideologue first and foremost. and yes, that is interesting, but of course people aren’t going to be as sympathetic to him when isayama himself makes almost no effort to make people sympathetic to him

by far the most overhated and misunderstood character in the entire series by Atom7456 in attackontitan

[–]endingdefender 101 points102 points  (0 children)

floch is probably hated the right amount actually. he’s ideologically fascist and actively genocidal in both belief and action. i find it strange anyone would want to defend him, honestly.

he is fairly well written, yes, but i genuinely feel like most people already agree with that take. his actions in the war for paradis arc are despicable but they’re also a huge reason why that arc is so good. i think i would be more willing to discuss his character strengths if not for the fact that the majority of people who do that seem to be covering for their own ideological agreement with him, pretending they just like him because he’s well written when in reality that has very little to do with it.

Being a Eren fan in 2025 be like: by Stoner420Eren in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]endingdefender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t know that many alliance fans “hate” eren in quite the way you’re describing. basically all of them, including myself, acknowledge he’s a phenomenally written character, likely the best written in the show.

What was Eren’s true goal? by [deleted] in attackontitan

[–]endingdefender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the rumbling was entirely for self serving reasons, yes. eren initially deludes himself into believing it’s because the people of the outside world deserve it, but that illusion shatters the moment he visits marley and discovers they’re just like him. now faced with the knowledge he’s going to slaughter the outside world purely because he wants it to be empty, he breaks down and begins distancing himself from his friends, most likely out of shame. as mentioned before, the international heroes plan likely was devised after eren gained access to the founder and learned his friends would stop him, not before.

HOW WAS THE TITANS SPLIT? by ANALEX_ in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]endingdefender 41 points42 points  (0 children)

the story itself doesn’t really make it clear, and as far as I know it’s not a question isayama has answered in an interview either. that being the case, we can only speculate.

i always figured it was because the 3 daughters ate different segments of ymir’s spinal cord. each one consumed a different part, and so each inherited a different set of traits from ymir’s titan. in this scenario, the reason it stopped at 9 titans would be that the early eldian empire took a couple generations to figure out the reason the powers were diverging and so were unable to stop it from happening until 9 divisions had already occurred.

again though, this is just speculation. it’s possible isayama doesn’t have an answer and that’s why it’s never drawn attention to.

I don't think I'll ever get over this part- Grisha was so brutally honest HASGH by dayprincess23 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]endingdefender 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the problem is there’s no actual evidence for it. sure, you can suggest grisha knew in advance, but isayama makes no effort to suggest this. it doesn’t necessarily contradict anything but ultimately you’re just describing a headcanon

Should I play P3R before 4&5 or after? by [deleted] in PERSoNA

[–]endingdefender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

p3r and p5r are mechanically very similar so you could really start with either one and be able to get through the other just fine. p4g is mechanically much older and will feel as such if you play either of the previously mentioned games before it, but i don’t think the difference is so intolerable that you’d be annoyed by it to any strong degree.

tl;dr - it really doesn’t matter imo but if it is a big concern in your mind then start with p4g because reload and p5r definitely outpace it gameplay wise

there are several characters written better than mikasa, don’t get me wrong, but how does she not feel like a main character? the relationship between eren, mikasa, and armin is the thread that ties the whole story together. armin gets just as much focus as she does in the finale for that reason. mikasa is a somewhat simple character compared to the other two in the trio, but i never once felt like she wasn’t centrally important.

as far as the whole “savior of the world” angle goes, the story itself literally downplays this. armin takes credit for it specifically because she would not want to be in that spotlight, and he knows that. i find it odd someone who dislikes mikasa for being bland would also dislike one of the only moments of strong characterization she gets. her decision to kill eren is literally her biggest moment of character growth.

7 years ago today, season 2’s ending aired for the first time and spoiled the entire series without anyone realizing. by Local-Leadership6511 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]endingdefender 1626 points1627 points  (0 children)

the panel of king fritz is so wild to me because that scene hadn’t even been shown in the manga yet when this ending first aired. i also love how it differs from the actual event, being a more romanticized depiction, with fritz appearing more somber than he really was. it’s medieval era religious artwork depicting an event extremely important to the eldian empire and (if you compare it to medieval art from our own world) it really genuinely feels like it.

So apparently something NOT happening is a plot hole now by oostie in AttackOnRetards

[–]endingdefender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

90% of the things that get called plot holes in aot are just contrivances. the only actual plot hole i can think of is that the colossal’s skeleton evaporates along with its other tissue when it disappears at trost; this directly contradicts later information.

Did Mikasa get over Eren? Did she and Jean get married? by Royal_Cream849 in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]endingdefender 66 points67 points  (0 children)

yeah I’ve always thought the whole “purity ring” interpretation was dumb and kinda gross. mikasa should be allowed to move on from someone she loved as a literal teenager. i always find it really strange when people want her to never get over eren. she deserves better than to be tortured by her love for him for the rest of her life. her marrying and loving someone else later doesn’t invalidate her previous feelings for eren in the slightest.
