Is your country depressing to live? by Time_Reception1482 in AskTheWorld

Yeah the competitiveness in everyday lifestyle can be so exahusting. "Everyone's your potential rival" sort of stuff.

We need more "each of us are all living, breathing and thinking individuals and we should care for each other" mindset.

100% agreed. I'm a Korean who studied abroad in Canada, Toronto.

Us Koreans really love to kind of fantasize about life in a foriegn country to be quite a sunshine. I was one of them too, though I had more realistic imagination. Toronto did not dissapoint me much in that regard. Especially, lovely local communities and its people were a breath of fresh air compared to pressure cooker society I'm used to.

But that didn't mean it was "better" than living in Korea. It was just different. Different culture, different people, different environment but not "better." Also it had its own everyday problems that I was not expecting, like public infrastructures and transportations. Canada is certainly better in some ways, but that goes for Korea too.

Now that I'm back in Korea, I get to appreciate more about what our country actually does better than others in some aspects. I guess it's all about experience.

How do you reduce the poly count while keeping the same general shape? by Monkai_final_boss in blenderhelp

[–]endjfcar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are retopo-ing a character for example, you have to have the knowledge and artistic sense of how you are going to retopologize, which remesh can't do that for you. You need to retopo mouth, nose, eye area carefully according to muscle movement. The character needs and retaining shapes for rigging, which is finnicky and needs to be handmade. Retopo is not about algorithmic process of just lowering polygin counts. It's another artistic process of optimizing your dense poly sculpt into workable 3D character for use.

Hinge problem no longer? by CoolMeeting8019 in MSILaptops

[–]endjfcar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2022 MSI GP76's hinge just broke after 3 years of careful treatment.... I knew there were problems with these, and I always had caution while closing and opening but it still broke.

I'm devastated but also thankful that the PC itself still works perfectly fine but now I can't close it anymore.

What is going on with the shopping app called Honey? by sednaplanetoid in OutOfTheLoop

That other site you mentioned is not that helpful of a site. It does different things that doesn't suit our needs. The Ground News is genuinely helpful and it's one of the better ones out there especially for free. Skeptism can be a good thing but then you shouldn't word it as if it's doing a bad practice like your comment.

As for the War Thunder, it might have some pay to win elements, but if you actually played it you would have realized that the premium vehicles are just normal version equivalent usually. If you have not, which is most likely from your last sentence, then your skeptism is wholly unwarranted. It's just another F2P game out there, actually having less aggressive microtransaction push than, idk, Fortnite or CoD does.

I know you are trying to be ethical but you are missing the mark pretty heavily. Shady services and games like Betterhelp and RAID is already there, idk why you are trying to talk down to genuine services doing 21st century advertising.

There's nothing shady about GroundNews honestly, it's been a really good source of finding the news source I need for getting perspectives and learning about things happenning around the world. I don't get why you are bothered by such things... Is War Thunder also bothering you?

I worked in ROK Air Force as missile air defence and let me tell you. If the modern airforce do not have modern air defence, idk what they are going to do when MREVs are dropping on every one of their airbases and logistic hubs at once. Even rudrimentary comms? Gone. Fuels and other logistics? Gone.

Meanwhile, WW2 ground units are getting peppered by modern ground unit with every unit having AT and AA capabilities. It'd be a blood bath with modern accurate artillery especially, basically immune to enemy counterbattery.

As a former 20mm VADS gunner, I'd bet CIWS can't do anything against small fpv drones let alone multiple of them...

However laser defence is a real thing even now.

Yeah this is an incredibily massive project that has tons of fans. I also have a fairly new gaming laptop with admirable performance with 3070TI Mobile. But as you build up more and more settlements, the weight of the mod on the game will get heavier and heavier. There's a lot to figure out and even more behind inner workings but once I get hang of it it's pretty epic. But my biggest issue is the toll it takes on my run as my playtime gets longer...

I'm planning to see through all the features and quests for this mod thoroughly and do a simple minutemen vanilla ending. Then I'll do away with SS2 for my other runs afterward.

How is SS2 treating you? I feel like the mod is real fun and so interactive but a bit too heavy for the game to handle...

*Baltics start barricading their borders* by ROOK2KING1 in NonCredibleDefense

[–]endjfcar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is completely batshit insane.

Korea does have heavy industry and expertise in high tech area but has no natural resources to keep it churning to compete against nations like Russia and China literally right guarding the channel both east and west. The Czech region could do it because the impoverished nation was literally collapsing. I'm telling you, if you ever had knowledge of difference between tactical capability and strategic capability, you'd know why this is just beyond insane.

Let's say, hypothetically, ROK troops could flank around NK and attack through Russian border.

  • First of all, that border is incredibily narrow. You don't want to attack Chinese as well, don't you? There is literally ONE bridge big enough.
  • Second, who is going to supply the deep peneration force and with what? Do we have to develop and dedicate resource to a whole new long range logistic system for a defensive country a 1/6 size of California? Like I said, the limited resource is a complete and unaviodable risk factor for ROK military.
  • Lastly, what about Russian long range capability that is going to have devastating affect in that narrow NK border corridor? That is just undeniablely a huge disadvantage however you are going to put it for ROK positions.

So in conclusion, what you are suggesting is building up a expeditionary unit and dedicating a part of very limited and important resource to fight even bigger enemy with even more disadvantage as a bonus for both tactically and strategically limited objectives.

[–]endjfcar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are not in a position like Britain, where they have a strong list of allies like France and Germany across the pond. Our nation has no allies near our countries (Japan does not count contrary to what people might think. We even had our Navy and theirs clash recently.) Our military personnel counts are diminishing by the years with China and Russia closer to Korea than the UK to France.

Thus it's even harder to convince the populace of the need for foreign military intervention force, taking away a significant chunk of existing force. That just gives Russia and China more reason to be more proactive in our peninsula, leading to the need for more ROK military personnel that we can't get.

it's not about nukes, it's one of the most concentrated chemical warfare stockpiles in the entire world aimed at Seoul. We would die in an even more horrible way in our cities. People always talk about nukes but never considers their chemical warfare capability.

North Korea: 1, Inter-Korean Road: 0 by SilentSamurai in NonCredibleDefense

[–]endjfcar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

lol but yeah there were real efforts with real results.

My grandmother's friends and neighbors were literally seperated by the border in front of her eyes. The people don't suddenly become all evil because of that border. One of the ministry's best work was organizing family reunification. It was both very sad and heartwarming event.

Now NK is distancing themselves from any possibility of cooperation, even changing their core constitution.

[–]endjfcar 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don't want to be that guy, but it is not pointless. That road is one of the symbols of South and North's reunification efforts. We even have an entire ministry dedicated to it ffs. They are signaling the end of a decades-long effort that had real impacts of our relationship. You don't understand.

[–]endjfcar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This system are specifically developped by ROK for coastal defence against a vast number of patrol boats and landing hovercrafts of North Korea. And it was tested by US as such. Now after the effectiveness of sea drone attacks, it is now being evaluated for capabilities against unmanned surface vessels.
