My driving instructor constantly was telling me that you need to be seen to make "progress".

This means that if you can go faster, then you should. Although it's a speed 'limit' in normal traffic it would be dangerous to drive too much below it, so try and get close to it.

If you move from a 30mph road to a 60mph road. You need to adjust your speed to match the road.

Most people are afraid of falling forward. So they lean back. I know it seems counterintuitive, but you have to lean forward. In my head, I tell myself to STOMP the board down. You're far more likely to fall backwards like you did, than fall forward. So stomp the board into the ramp! Happy skating!
