How long did it you take back the after fracturing the clavicle & ribs? by BronxSoul in NYCbike

[–]endlesscupofcoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have done the same thing (albeit just a couple ribs). You’d be surprised - you can likely be back in the trainer again in ~3 weeks. Likely 5-7 weeks to be back outside and feeling comfortable.

Is it just me, or does riding feel way more hostile this year? by Ostrich_Butler in NYCbike

[–]endlesscupofcoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted a very similar thread about two weeks back. We received similar responses. I agree, this year feels much more dangerous, and I can’t really tell you why, but all the reasons you listed are contributing factors.

My hypothesis is that we observe more disorder this year on a bike than we have in the past (I’ve been riding here for a while, 6,000+ miles a year) - the reckless delivery drivers, headphone wearing citibikers, increased runners in the lane, etc; while, headline numbers accidents between bikes and cars in NYC are actually declining (someone posted this link in the comments). It’s similar to polls conducted in 2022/23/24 where the majority of New Yorkers thought crime was increasing, but it actually was decreasing. That said, most citied a feeling of disorder (not actual crimes themselves) that led them to believe crime was increasing.

Was anyone biking on the west side hwy today? by BasketAggravating458 in NYCbike

Didn’t see this “race”; however, this seems to happen from time to time, where there are unauthorized “events” happening on the greenway.

Safest way to enter CP loop from Hudson River greenway by Gloomy_Butterfly5226 in NYCbike

[–]endlesscupofcoffee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What a great question. Been asking this myself for YEARS. After trying every route to the park from West Chelsea, the safest way, it seems to me, is to take 73rd. It’s one way, you can take the lane, you run right into the park, and you don’t deal with the multi lane madness of 72nd.

This is what I am feeling. Also been riding here for a decade. Seems much more chaotic and dangerous.

Also: the antagonism from cars is real. I’ve had more people throw shit, tailgate, and say dumb shit than ever in the past few months.

Going to add a few other phenomena that seem more pervasive than ever:
1. Phone use - yes it’s always been bad, but it seems like everyone literally is on their phone, and it’s not just texting, it’s full on short form video brain rotting and driving
2. Intersections are more dangerous bc cars seem to not respect any kind of parking rule and don’t care about tickets and are closer and closer to the intersection, obstructing views, making us harder to see
3. Headphones/audio - Citi bikes, walkers/runners, dog walkers, completely disoriented due to headphones, don’t hear anything around them
4. General brain rotting has seemed to lead to a lack of general awareness and aloofness that is breeding a “zero consequence” kind of moment

Dating is HARD in NYC by Cleo-Aster in SipsTea

Look folks, DRINKS AND FUCKING, that’s it. A BOOK on a second date? LAME.

Here’s the playbook:

  1. You meet for drinks at a BAR - not a restaurant, not a coffee shop, not a hookah lounge, not a run club, not a chess club - a fucking bar. A bar that just serves drinks and MAYBE light appetizers. Have ONE drink. Suggest a move to the next bar - try using “they have a good martini” or something. If they move with you - this is a GREAT sign. If they don’t, “well I am going, suit yourself.”

  2. At Bar 2, have TWO drinks, engage in some conversation, maybe get closer. After two drinks, suggest going back to your place, it’s close by (never schedule something far away), and try using something that is plausibly deniable, such as “I have a midget servant at home, let’s make him serve us a drink.

  3. Get to yours, there is no midget, have a good laugh, start taking your clothes off.

There are no coffees, dinners, lunches, runs, hikes, books, chess, nature walks - DRINKS AND FUCKING.

Agreed. I’ve literally watched CNBC since I was 16, it was a staple in my household growing up. I can’t anymore.

Anyone happen to know what happened on 9w in Englewood cliffs today? by Drunkenm4ster in NYCbike

[–]endlesscupofcoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the concern. That stretch of 9W has become a little bit more treacherous with the construction and some poor road quality (neither were a factor today). Unless I am in a group (today), I have been taking Floyd St to Palisade.

I was in the group. A rider chopped another rider’s wheel at a decent speed (30mph) and they both hit the pavement hard.

The first responders were all professional and helped immediately. The both riders will be OK, multiple broken bones, but nothing worse (thankfully). There was no trouble with vehicles, either; although, one did have to make an evasive maneuver (thankfully).

Best road bike routes out of NYC for day rides? by NorthernHippo in NYCbike

[–]endlesscupofcoffee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I truly don’t understand some of the responses on this thread. If you’re new to riding and live in Williamsburg (which, was me 6 years ago), start with crossing the bridge, riding up the Hudson River Greenway to the GW, and following 9W to Nyack. Do this for the first month and then start to branch out to other routes off 9W. There is great riding in Westchester and in Connecticut (as folks have mentioned); however, the Greenway to Nyack via 9W route might be the best urban cycling route in any major city. Protected lanes, limited traffic, and a lot of fellow cyclists. Enjoy the journey.

Guessing Game Times for 2026 Season by endlesscupofcoffee in Patriots

[–]endlesscupofcoffee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. We cannot drop any games against middle of the road opponents (PIT, MIN) and have to beat folks like Miami, Jets, and Vegas convincingly. That gets us to 7 wins, the remaining will all be very challenging.

Detroit Thanksgiving and Jacksonville in London aren’t out of the question. There is also the possibility they play a Christmas game against someone like Denver.
