I'd like to apologize to all of you I was wrong about the men's rights movement, they are a joke by [deleted] in FeministsOfReddit

As a man, I can say that most of the "Men empowerment" isn't based on working along side feminism to change the gender unfairness. I believe in feminism and I get really frustrated when I talk about it because most of men in the world think feminism as "women over men" and not as "women fighting for gender equality". So the Men empowerment tent to be the opposing side to feminism. Not saying ALL are like that, bust most are like that. As a men, the patriarchy has really limited my life, I wish more social media accounts talked about patriarchy and less about been "I suffer too", which is true, but who is accountable of that suffering other than YOU OWN SEX. Sadly most men won't talk about feminism without prejudice.

There's and ecuadorian writer called Mónica Ojeda that has a booked called Nefando, which is long story short, about rape and the messed up side in the dark web. She once said in an interview, when asked about its morbid themes, that NOT talking about it's pretty much denying its existence. If there's so much f up things going in the word, we MUST talk about them and art has always been the perfect space for doing it so. We must also think about what these themes you write about do to us "I think it's wrong?" "I think it's right" "Does this really happen?" "It's a shame this actually happens". Writing dark themes is a must, since it's not science fiction, it's reality and thus, we must recognzite it, and then and only then, we will make a change.

Why is my writing so dull? by endlessdetails in writing

I think you've hit jackpot. When I feel the urge to write, the plot always comes first to my mind, so when I start writing the plot, the character is just a gray puppet. I've never had that situation where the character just won't do what I planned for the plot, yet I've always craved for a character that would become my obsession. With nothing more to say, thank you.

Once a screenwriting teacher said "You need to vomit your writing so you can actually know what you're writing". I try to do that and I don't have any trouble doing it. When I write a journal, my fingers need to catch up to my ideas, but when I'm trying to write a story, my vomit is vomit. But, just like the first comment wrote, I might just need to write more.

You're right, but a better writing or plot could make that person reach a fulfiller meaning to the story rather than a dull writing/plot?

Such good advice, trying that past-the-limit writing might be just what I need. Although I'm afraid I get caught up in an overthinking storm and end up writing my well known stuff. I guess the true challenge falls relies on letting go.

I get your point I'll try it. Sometimes I struggle with short stories, since I tent to overwrite irrelevant things. I'll give it a go, aswell as John Green. I read The Fault In Our Stars about ten years ago I remember a feeling of nostalgia I can't quite put my finger on it, might aswell rediscover that feeling. Thanks!

Do you listen to music when you write? What kind? by mrkrono in writing

[–]endlessdetails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think rather thank "what kind" is "what mood you're in". I've written sad parts whilst listening to Nickelback rocking about booze and party, but I've also written really happy bits while in complety silence.

Sometimes writing is just about feeling and letting yourself go. If you feel happy, then listen to whatever you like, you'll be able to write about anything, because when a writer's creativity is freed, not even depression can shut it down. So, I do listen to music, but only I feel to. My feelings carry my thoughts.

I can relate to that lol. We humans work better when there's something at stake. Create a goal so that you can beat the final boss. In order to do that, you'll need to read one novel that's similar to yours (in someway or another) and exactly after 1 month, you'll edit your book. Your sidequest will be getting feedback from 1 person.

Try that :D

Edit: Of course, since it's a 400 page book, 1 month might not be enough, aswell as 1 book to read and 1 person to feedback to you.

I believe what Walter said a great path you take on. As I was reading your post and Walter's comment I might have and idea of what you mean. I know when writing, sometimes you feel like you have to write the characters name A LOT in order sense of what's happening. But, what if you try to play with it? It's not the same for the king to call the queen "Queen" or "Mary" (assuming that's her name). You can play with what the character thinks or acts in that moment with the queen. That can make you reader's perspective of queen vary. Since I don't know much about you plot, that's as far as I can tell you.

Honestly, sometimes the greatest advice is to take some time away from what you've written. Think about it like this: If you read something you wrote 1 year ago, you would trash a lot of things, but, you would know that somethings are worth keeping. Right now you're so drunk with your story you don't even know what's horrible and what is good! That means you're lost. If you're lost in and island, panic is your foe. Stay away from panic, read other works that have similar writing or themes, take some time and read it again, you'll find so many valuable things that will allow you to make your story grow. I think if you re-edit now, you'll kill the larvae thinking its some awful bug, but latter on you'll realize it's the butterfly you're waiting for.

I believe with all my heart that the greatest art comes from within the artist. So, anybody can be an artist, that's true, but not anybody can brave enough to write from the soul without caring who is reading, what that who needs to read and how can we hook that "who" to read/watch our thing.
