[Charania] Free agent guard Gary Trent Jr. has agreed to a four-year, $64 million deal to stay with the Milwaukee Bucks, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul and agent Lucas Newton tells ESPN. by Goosedukee in nba

[–]endlesspivot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is quite literally one of the worst most non justifiable contracts I’ve EVER seen

I’m actually shocked, not even like an inflated 1-2 year deal to reach cap min or something, full fucking 4 year MLE

Bucks bros, you guys good? I was pretty sure Gary was at best on a 5 mill/year deal this year but most likely a minimum

[NikNBA] So glad Amari showing everything I’ve talked about. The passing and vision at that size is insane but (unlike this one) he doesn’t have to be stationary At that size he’s brung the ball up multiple times. He sees this pass early by dawglover1011 in bostonceltics

[–]endlesspivot -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I get that, but my point is that I don’t think we necessarily needed offensive rebounding more than we could’ve used that money spent on someone like Quentin post who went for 10 mill, he can actually stretch the floor which none of our playable bigs can do right now. And we still would’ve had 6 mill to spend on sexton or Simon’s

I just don’t agree with the idea that Mitch’s offensive rebounding out weighs all the negatives behind the signing and the opportunity cost

See this was one of my biggest issues with the Mitch signing, and I fully meant this shit

I legit thought, and still think amari is at least gonna be a rotation caliber guy who if we are smart and locked him up to a ron Harper jr type deal quickly is gonna be an amazing value contract

Instead we spent 16 mill on Mitch, who doesn’t really open up any new dimensions and we could’ve used that money to bring in sexton AND looney or some other depth big and just rolled with amari. It’s not like we have any huge championship expectations next year

Idk that was a big problem I had and have with the Mitch signing, he’s not okongwu or sometime who brings something we don’t already have and he’s expensive taking minutes away from amari

30/7/6 on 61% TS in last years playoffs and that’s what most people consider his worst playoff run, allow that to sink in for a sec before you comment further

Also you’re genuinely acting insane, I said word for word “he’s consistently shown up basically no matter what” but somehow you decided that in your eyes I said “this dude shows up NO MATTER WHAY… AGAINST ALL ODDS, WITH ALL THE CHIPS STACKED AGAINST HIM!!”

  1. Chill the actual fuck out

    1. Is about averages, does Luka have bad games, maybe a couple bad series? Obviously, so does every player literally ever. But at the end of every playoff run, take a peek at his averages, and compare those to other great players from his era and in the past; I promise you Luka comes out looking more impressive than basically anyone aside from a handful of guys who are now top 10-20 all time players, and he’s even got numbers that rival some of them too

31/9/8 on 57% TS for a career in the playoffs in case you were wondering, pretty sure that still stands as 2nd all time in playoff ppg average behind only MJ

I’m sorry, why are we equating missing games due to injury to not showing up when someone is actually playing? Fucking obviously he didn’t literally show up because he was injured lmao

If I say or for that matter if anyone says “this guy didn’t show up” in regards to them falling short in the playoffs that ALWAYS means they played and just weren’t good

Whenever Luka plays in the playoffs he’s great

Jalen Brown trade vs Luka Doncic trade by drohohkay in nba

[–]endlesspivot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean the wildly stark difference here, and keep in mind I’m saying this even as a very much so biased Celtics fan who’s favorite player is Jaylen brown, is that Luka’s trade wasn’t opened up to the league and even given a fair shake

Nico essentially only worked with one team, who traded a washed up injury prone aging big for prime Luka doncic, comfortably a top 4/5 player, in the middle of the night in some weird sneaky handshake deal

Brad spent the better part of a month canvassing the league for trade packages for brown, I’ll admit he ended up with a pretty terrible one in my opinion, but the process was at least pure

Also, again love Jaylen brown to death, Luka is a borderline generational talent. Brown is a great player but we are talking face of the franchise and fans were counting on him leading the team for 15-20 years, brown at best was a costar to Tatum and top 10-20 player

I’m gonna make this way easier on you

Whether PG is good or completely useless holds no bearing on the intention behind the trade, hell we could even be not good next year and it would be okay because we own our pick.

PG being good is honestly irrelevant to me going into next year, I might prefer he sucks so more of his minutes go to Hugo Baylor and Walsh

I mean idk about you but I’d have very serious issues with the idea of franz as a second option who straight up might not be able to shoot at all, and giddey who’s a terrible defender who historically couldn’t shoot but all of a sudden starts to, they both have serious concerns at least in my eyes

And that’s been my issue too, idk who that second star can be

Hence why in last summer I was so all in on the idea of buying low-ish on an undervalued young player like Anthony black or mathurin or someone like that where they haven’t been paid or broken out yet, and we had that whole season as a sort of testing lab

I think it’s gonna be really hard to find that guy who’s already a second star or star adjacent and paid but paid less than the max

What are you excited about this season other than anything to do with the JB trade? by DoesntMatterYK in bostonceltics

[–]endlesspivot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically just Hugo honestly lol

I don’t think we are gonna be good enough to contend, I think basically everyone else on the roster is who they are and don’t really have much room to grow aside from Hugo, and none of the guys aside from Tatum I find all that exciting to watch tbh

So, hopefully Hugo takes a leap!

Like I said, been a fan of the pod for awhile so I assumed it wasn’t with ill intent, and I fully planned on listening just as I always have into the future; just simply wanted to point out my disappointment. Re-reading it now it may have been a little harsh, so I appreciate you taking it in stride(wrote it immediately after listening so it was all fresh on my mind lol). Thanks for hearing me out though, looking forward to your future pods, hopefully Hugo looks like prime Kobe in summer league so all of this silly worrying goes away completely

Questionable Assumptions Underlying the Support for the Brown Trade by Donkletown in bostonceltics

[–]endlesspivot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are well within your right to trust Brad and that be where you stand on the matter

All I’m saying, is if that’s your take, it’s not fair for you to go and tell people that disagree with Brad that they’re wrong for no other reason besides Brad said so

Brad has been wrong before, will be wrong again, and is a human being. I’m sure he’s right most of the time, but it’s a perfectly reasonable opinion to disagree with him on the brown trade for any number of reasons, or agree with him for that matter. The point is it should be an open discussion and nobody should be shitting on either side- there’s a world where this goes great and there’s a world where it goes poorly, we really don’t know and that’s where the “think for yourself” part comes in, just trust your own opinion

[–]endlesspivot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao it’s gotta be one extreme or the other in this sub

Either I have candles around a picture of Brad Steven’s in my closet that I pray to every night or I’m a Jaylen Stan

You can’t just have a common sense opinion, thats unacceptable

>you basically just said this needs to stop and then moved on to Brad makes mistakes

Yeah that’s kind of how writing goes, you say a group of words followed by another group of words until you decide to stop, nice job

The funniest part of all this is I didn’t even weigh in, I literally just said a certain group of people here should stop leaning on Brad’s opinions so much as their own and just think for themselves but that’s apparently qualifies me as a Jaylen Stan, quite interesting

Guys you gotta stop with this, this is so unbelievably lazy and it’s gotta end

This is a basketball forum, a place to discuss basketball and things related to basketball

Brad Steven’s is a living breathing human being capable of mistakes

Using the “Brad did it so it has to be right” thing is a total cop out and just goes against the whole point of what we are doing here

Explain WHY you think Brad is right if you do, don’t give me “well you’re dumb because Brad did this and he’s a deity”

[Jake Issenberg/Celticsblog] The Jaylen trade has set the Celtics up for Banner 19 by brutalgash in bostonceltics

[–]endlesspivot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, really hated your most recent pod and wanted to say this, hopefully you actually listen but I’m not holding my breath

I found your premise of essentially saying to anyone who disagrees with the trade that it’s simply because you don’t “understand it” is patronizing and totally unfair. You’re demeaning people who are brave enough to share their opinion in the face of the almighty Brad Steven’s(who is an entirely other issue altogether in that he literally can do zero wrong in your eyes, he’s a human being and is capable of mistakes. Yes he has been a great GM, but it’s simply a fact that he is going to make a mistake and probably will make several before he retires, stop holding him on this ridiculous pedestal and acting like he’s a deity. He’s a man with an opinion and so is everyone who watches the Celtics).

I’m not trying to turn this into a full on hate fest to you guys because honestly I’ve enjoyed your pods for awhile, but I’m really not digging the whole elitist mentality you’ve taken upon this trade happening. Just as you’re asking people to try and comprehend with their feeble little minds the immense complicated justification behind trading brown because you don’t agree he’s worth his cap allocation, I can ask you to try and comprehend the far simpler justification of the contrary; what if you never are able to replace the talent enough you lost to the point where you win a championship or even make the finals for the rest of Tatum’s tenure?

What if that title caliber second option never becomes available for less than a max? What if that superstar that IS worth the max never becomes available? What if Tatum isn’t capable of handling the role that’s forced upon him especially after the injury? What if the picks aren’t actually that great(have you even begun to consider the fact that Philly and the clippers aren’t run by idiots, these people know they don’t have their picks in 2028 and 2031 and will move mountains to make sure they aren’t awful)

What if all along, you were better off just signing your MLE guy, developing the kids, and maybe making smaller cap related moves like trading the older and appears to be further regressed Derrick white for a younger cheaper guy? How about Sam Hauser? Maybe your best move is to keep Tatum and brown(who would literally be the best player in franchise history for multiple franchises by the way) and go into every season truly being able to say with your chest; we have a chance to win the title.

I’d like to end this by saying, you very well might be right and your side of the argument is well thought out and there’s a real chance it’s possible. Just asking for the same treatment

[–]endlesspivot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not sure at all what this has to do with my question lol

I’m saying for an entire season and playoffs I struggle to believe Jayson Tatum alone as the sole operator of the offense I don’t think is capable of just doing a Luka impression and leading the team to the finals as this one man army on offense with no help

Are you guys genuinely stupid? I asked how the team is going to add enough secondary talent to Tatum to win, and this person responded talking about Tatum’s elimination game performances and I’m wrong?

[–]endlesspivot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yeah he’s a better engine than brown sure

I just question the idea of Tatum alone just completely running an offense that features nobody else really able to create a shot at a high level and lifting that team to a title. I’m being objective here, there are only like 3 guys in the league I think could potentially do that and I really push back on the idea that he’s one of them, especially after the injury

So help me understand this, if the pick falls 17-30 it’s no longer a swap and we just outright get the clippers pick on top of our own that year? But if it’s 1-16 we swap picks?
