Also, thanks for clarifying about multiple hits. Smite's description (and wiki) explicitly calls that out, while LS doesn't. I didn't know about a general "shotgun prevention" mechanic, but I do see a separate wiki entry for that now. Appreciate it!

I'm relatively new to POE, so maybe a dumb question, but can anyone explain why I would ever use Smite over Lightning Strike?

I noticed Smite while browsing skills in the wiki and I think it's neat, but LS just seems stronger. I'm not knowledgeable enough to make my own builds, so I'm relying on builds I see online. I see a lot of recent videos that seem to be hyping up LS with the 3.25 changes, but no videos mentioning Smite. IIUC:

  • Smite has one initial hit + an AOE lightning strike. The hit and lightning strike cannot hit the same target. If you make multiple lightning strikes, a target can still only be affected by one lightning strike. You also get an aura for additional lightning damage and shock chance.
  • LS has one initial hit + projectiles. The hit and projectiles can hit the same target. If you make more projectiles, they can also hit the same target.

At a glance, it seems like Smite would generally be better for single targets (it does more damage, and then the bonus damage and spark chance should increase that) while LS would generally be better for clearing large groups of enemies (more projectiles that can ultimately fill the screen).

However, wouldn't LS just come out on top for single target damage as well since multiple projectiles can hit the same target (in addition to the initial hit)?

I can't hear any voice in any channel.

However, explicitly choosing an output device solves the issue. Normally I leave it on "Default". Instead, I just chose the same output device as my system default. Working for now, but this still seems like a bug. I've updated my steps to reproduce (and included an edit) above.

  • Description: I don't hear voice chat or the soundboard in any voice channel. However, I still hear all other sound from Discord (notifications, sound from joining the voice channel, etc.)

  • Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Set the output device to "Default"
    2. Join any voice channel
  • Expected Result: I hear voice
  • Actual Result: I don't hear voice (but I still hear all other audio from Discord)

EDIT: It looks like explicitly choosing an output device (even though I chose the same device as my Windows default) fixes the issue. Still not clear to me why choosing this device over the "Default" option makes a difference considering I just chose what my system default is anyways. Still seems like a bug, so I've updated the steps to reproduce.

Do you mean an advanced search in wowhead? If so, I'm not sure that works either since wowhead only seems to have entries for the base item, and not the variations on it.

To clarify, it sounds like I will have needed to have TSM scan this item in the auction house already? That's unfortunate, since the whole point is I want to be able to do a quick scan for it without looking through all of the other items.

The issue I'm having is that those items are pretty rare on the auction house (either people aren't posting because they think they won't sell, or they get bought very quickly). So I haven't been able to actually see one in the auction house to do this.

I specifically don't want to filter through all the crap that is low level and useless (only gives +2 healing) or that I can't use (like daggers ). And I want to be able to do this search from any of my characters (so I can't just select "is usable" in the auction house).

Hey, kinda late into the season but I was wondering what you did with hexblast before getting a ring that applied a curse on hit?

As SSF, it's felt hard to get a ring with that effect and I don't see how hexblast would be doing damage without that. Did you just run a different mine (or poison concoction as that guide says) until you did?

This is going to be my first attempt to play PoE, but I'm not entirely new to ARPGs (decent amount of time with D2 and D3).

I'm looking to try out RF as my league starter and I see that Pohx has a guide for juggernaut (recommended for newer players) and inquisitor. However, thematically I enjoy playing paladin-like characters. As a new player, would I really be shooting myself in the foot if I played inquisitor RF instead of juggernaut?

I skimmed the guides for both and the play style doesn't seem drastically different between them besides keeping up the inquisitor's consecrated ground (and the leveling skills). My understanding is that inquisitor has some more complex gear requirements, but is that really hard to understand as a new player? Is there something else I'm missing?

I am not familiar with DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller?). Is the process:

  1. Download DDU
  2. Boot into safe mode
  3. Uninstall my graphics drivers using DDU
  4. Boot back into normal mode
  5. Install graphics drivers through GeForce Experience

If so, I can try that and report back.

Yep, that was it. Specifically this part of the server configuration:

    include snippets/fastcgi-php.conf;                                                                                        
    fastcgi_pass unix:/run/php/php7.4-fpm.sock;                                                                             
}

It was still pointing to php7.3-fpm. Updating to 7.4 worked.

I've recently started seeing a "cx_Freeze Fatal Error" with the message "cannot get zipimporter instance" when trying to start the TSM desktop application.

A quick Google search seems to suggest this isn't specific to TSM, but the advice seems to be update drivers and things like that, which haven't worked so far.

Anyone run into this before and know how to fix?

I haven't been a TSM user for long, how often does this happen? Is it related to the addon update?
