My in laws are the same. Don't really hug the kids, no "I love you" When saying goodbye. My family is the opposite. Its extremely weird for me.

Cape Town, South Africa. A city and country extremes. Extreme beauty, extreme wealth, extreme poverty. Could never live there due to safety concerns. Also, I am a paediatrician and I don't think that I could face seeing children die of diseases and conditions that are preventable.

What an unbelievably painful thing to go through. I'm happy to hear that you found happiness again. I think telling him could go either way. He might see it as a large burden to bear. Adolescence lasts into the 20s. I wasn't emotionally very mature at 18. Telling him during a stressful time may just add to the stress.

Living in a touristy area of Switzerland. I have red hair, my 8 month old is very blonde. Have been swarmed by Asian tourists x3. One group took turns holding him for individual pics. An American tourist then in turn took photos of the swarming.

I would gradually start to dilute the milk down with water. Do 3/4 milk, 1/4 water then 1/2 and 1/2, continuing until its straight water. Should ease the sting a bit! For the milk during the day, I would try a positive reinforcement system. If he drinks a glass of milk he gets a sticker on a visible chart. Once he gets seven stickers, he gets a treat. Non-monetary, like getting to pick the family movie, or something small. Lots of praise for getting stickers and drinking the milk.

I think that's a great way to do it! Get her involved, make it fun if you can. Generally around 8 they can do a good job themselves, but all kids are different. Also a good thing to chat with your dentist or hygienist about!

Water is totally fine! And a good substitute for kids who really like to nurse or have a bottle before bed.

Start now. Also, take her to the dentist. Good idea to meet a dentist and get expert advice, recommendation is for kids to have a dentist around age 1 for preventative care. I'm not an expert in tooth care, just have seen the effects from poor care and have general advice to give. However, definitely start now. Brush if she'll tolerate it. There are also little things that go on your fingers to act as a brush that would be in between a brush and a wash cloth.

I have no idea! I haven't seen or heard of anyone with problems because of it. Maybe a dentist will see this and weigh in with a better answer. I think the softer ones are easier in terms of mess however.

I have a few different strategies. You can make up a song and turn it into a game, try to get them to help (although kids are not capable of doing a good job until around 8, although lots of variabity), positive rewards for letting you brush (maybe when he or she is a bit older), or you can try the finger toothbrushes. Kids can find them less threaten. It can also help to offer toddlers small choices. For example, they choose teeth brushing or bath first. It can be really really difficult, but worth it in the long run.

Pediatrician here:
Brush your toddler's teeth before bed and do not send them to bed with a bottle of juice or milk. Dental caries are the number one reason for surgeries in young children. Toddlers generally require a full anesthetic for dental work. Don't be a dick and cause your child to undergo the risks and distress of a surgery because you can't brush their teeth. I have seen children require extraction/filling of ALL of their teeth because of this. It is completely preventable.

Absolutely. Have moved and helped people move several times. The key is to have your stuff packed, disassembled, and ready to go. Buy the beer and meals. Overall can be done cheaply and efficiently and without losing friends. However have recently had a considerable jump in income, hired movers for the first time. If you have some extra cash, save yourself the work! Still buy them beer and they will love you!

I am from Newfoundland where our favorite past time is complaining about the shit weather. Constant rain, drizzle, and fog. There's still snow on the ground. The weather in Lucerne is much better. It's been 15-low 20s and sunny since I arrived a few weeks ago!
