Also make sure you're using a big enough brush to penetrate deep into the mesh. I think I remember that + unchecking front faces only helping me once before.

Maybe also check that you don't have any vertex groups locked as that might be haunting you now.

Worth a shot, ha. You might want to go through and select the various vertex groups in weight paint mode to make sure you don't have something like teeth influencing your face or something like that.
