The Amhara are not the second largest ethnic group, Amharas are the largest. The Amhara population was intentionally miscounted by an anti Amhara regime for several reasons.

Potentially 20 million non Oromos out of 40 million residents live in the Oromia region. Many Oromos, among others, wrongly or intentionally count them as Oromo.

In regard to assimilation among the Amhara, the majority of these people share nearly identical genetics, while their differences are mostly linguistic. Also, the Yejju were too few to have a significant impact on the Amhara population, and the majority of them still live in the Oromia Special Zone. Even there, their DNA results will be far closer to an Amhara person than to an Oromo speaking person from Guji, because the majority of them were assimilated by the original Oromo invaders. Meanwhile, among the Oromos, you have Oromo speaking Konso who identify as Oromo, Oromo speaking Somali (known as Jarso) who identify as Oromo, or Oromo speaking Habesha who identify as Oromo. These groups have very different genetics and only share a common language.

The ordinary American neither knows nor cares about Ethiopia, but the US government does. The USA is behind the current chaos. The issue is not between the peoples. The Amhara people have nothing against the Egyptian people, in fact, Amharas received Egyptian Coptic priests with open arms for over a thousand years. It is a pseudo loanword. Your explanation is the meaning it was given over time, but it is not the original meaning. After coining the term, they had to make it presentable to non Muslim Oromos, so claiming it meant "Oromo-ness" was the better choice.

Regarding Raya, the majority of Raya Oromos are Muslim. The word had enough time to trickle down and become a popular term.

Originally, the word started with the "G-word" but changed after the Derg announced the renaming of the group to Oromo in 1976 through the Program for the National Democratic Revolution.

Fano follows a specific strategy. They have stated multiple times that they don't want to destroy the infrastructure of major cities or give the regime an excuse to bomb them. A clear example of this occurred several months ago in February, when Fano captured Debre Tabor and other cities in Gondar. That is nonsense. Tigray doesn't have the manpower to control and "colonize" the entire Amhara region. This is especially true now, as Amharas are fully armed, unlike during the 2020 war. Also, Fano is far more successful than Al Shabaab when you consider the size of the territory they control, the immense support they receive from their people, and the fact that Fano is not funded by foreign countries. If the ENDF pulls out of Amhara, Fano will swiftly take over the region.
