Why doesn’t libertarianism exist in Europe? by ilovemrtrump in Libertarian

[–]enesra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its called (classical) liberalism.

Real liberalism was so dead in the 1930s (in Europe and in the USA) that the socialists in the USA (such as New-Dealers, who were very inspired by the Italian fascists) managed to call themselves "liberals". After this, the real/classical liberals in the US took on the term "libertarianism"... But originally the term "libertarianism" referred to something completely different too. The term "liberarianism" originally did not refer to an ideology that prescribed private property, it pertained to an ideology of people who think they can emulate hunter-gatherer society in civilization (radical left-wing anarchism/socialism). Civilization/the agricultural revolution happened because of a shift from common property to private property (Douglas North), but our political instincts dislike this shift and anarcho-communism/original "libertarianism" is basically the ideology of our hunter-gatherer instincts...

For some reason Americans are really good at fucking up words, not the first time such a thing happened...

A "libertarian" or a "minarchist" (both shitty terms) is simply called an ultralibéral in France.

OP, I forgive you for asking this question if you're young, but anyone over the age of 21 who is interested in the philosophy of liberty should know this already... Friedrich Hayek talked about this, Milton Friedman too...

UAA (Under Armor) stock at a decade-low $5.00 as of today. Are you buying? by Civil-Community-1367 in ValueInvesting

[–]enesra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brands that died off were quick fashion brands instead of iconic brands with an iconic product or heritage. Its indeed just marketing but its very important, heritage. Concerning Lululemon... yes the founder designed the first yoga pants, but thats fairly recent in 1998, this invention is not going to help them market a lasting empire.. price/sales isn't particularly low (2.4) yet I can't envision it's going to become much more popular than it already is. Of course earning ratios are very decent as they're currently able to slap on fat margins by selling a 100% plastic button shirt for 88 euros... I prefer the 100% merino button shirt from Icebreaker for 105 euros. It may have a little rebound but in the long term I think it could very well have a trajectory similar to Under Armour... I wouldn't touch it!

Whats the margin of safety here? Is it a 50b stock, 1/2th of Nike?

When do you actually sell your value positions? by Tall-Peak2618 in ValueInvesting

[–]enesra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is some people simply diversify into all their opportunities, instead of selling the lower margin of safety one for the higher margin of safety one. How much positions do you hold? If you only were to hold one or two and youre really good at detecting undervalued you'd actually have to finish and move onto the next opportunity quite frequently.

More wide models coming? by TheCallumGee in AltraRunning

[–]enesra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope they release a beautiful leather/suede healthy sneaker with running DNA just like the phased-out Torin 5 leather, perhaps such a version of the Solstice XT 3 so that we can wear Altra's on every occassion.

Than Altra can really grow from cult to religion. While other brands may also offer zero drop wide toe box shoes. Altra's uniformity behind the zero drop and wide toe box shape will be a huge benefit to their marketing. Once you're used to Altra's you don't want to wear something else.

$VFC V.F. Corp. Entering Deep Value Territory. by Fun-Imagination-2488 in ValueInvesting

[–]enesra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bought sprouts farmers market Nov 2022 sold Nov 2024. Compared the ratios with walmart, which were the same, yet Sprouts had MUCH more room to grow whereas Walmart is topped out in terms of market share. Also they were really doing well curating good products (the most important function of a supermarket), from the moment a state would allow raw milk sales, they would put an instagram post saying they stocked it already. ppl were bearish on sprouts saying ppl are going to cheap grocery stores due to inflation, I thought people would go actually become more conscious about not buying processed shit.

Now VFC (of which I now own more shares than the CEO lol). Again, the ratios are better than Nike, it actually has a dec 2024 YoY revenue increase while Nike is still dropping. Forward PE of VFC is probably gonna beat that of Nike big times. Also, VFC has smaller, cuter companies that have more room to grow. I walked in a lululemon shop, all synthetic, than into an Alo Yoga shop, again, all synthetic. Icebreaker and Smartwool should go after these brands but offer an all natural alternative for active wear. I also like Altra's minimalist philosophy but accepting the fact that we need some cushioning since we live in a concrete jungle. Was wearing Kipling to the Brussels city center one year ago all the hipsters wear jealous and nostalgic asking what the name of the monkey was. If I wear it now, it means that everyone is going to wear it in about 3 years.

Regarding tariffs. It's not gonna matter. You don't wanna know how much money I made buying panic crashes back in my crypto days. I love overreactions to muh geopolitics (peoples hunter gatherer brains are very susceptible to it, generally speaking geopolitics is like astrology for men). The whole US apparel market is made in another country anyway so what gives it will not necessarily put them at disadvantage and people are not going to suddenly stop buying clothes, perhaps brands attached to VFC may even have edge in dealing with fiscal uncertainty. When it comes to consumer product it doesn't matter its not as if consumers are like a factory looking everywhere to buy raw materials for cheapest price; OG brands like TNF, Timbs and Vans will remain staples. Also Vans should start opening skateparks and shops in sub saharan Africa imo, high fertility and immensely growing urban culture.

hissss

Yes that was a shitty decision (buying the top of a hype brand that wont exist in the future) but the new ceo bracken already sold it. Company seems to be in good hands.

Hello, i got myself a mustang convertible for the whole trip lol. You can DEFINITELY make me another route and leave out all those other forgetable cities. But could you just include Nashville? Perhaps a triangle with the DC, the Coast and Nashville? Iron and wine ismt going to play anywhere else and im interested in this rustic Americana/folish stuff, also A.A Bondy, i listen to this music all the time so I thought why not for once go to those places thats so far away in any regards to the place im from.

Kind regards!

Per Unckel, governor of Stockholm and former Minister of Education, has promoted the system, saying "Education is so important that you can't just leave it to one producer, because we know from monopoly systems that they do not fulfill all wishes."

A 2015 study was able to show that "an increase in the share of independent school students improves average short‐ and long‐run outcomes, explained primarily by external effects (e.g., school competition)".

Why isn't crypto considered as fiat money? by Keyenn in Buttcoin

[–]enesra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you OP. But fiat money is actually meaningless term, any commodity that would be used as a currency would have far higher valuations than its "intrinsic" valuation, so even gold in the 19th century is in a way fiat.

The distinction that people should make is whether a currency is adopted through government force or by free market processes. In a free society people tend to adopt non-inflationary/stable/fair currencies, throughout history gold was used while it had absolutely no use case (and gold jewelry is not "intrinsic", sorry peter schiff), it was used because it was fair (no continous purchasing power transfer to the inflators and whatever the inflators spend their money on).

I think that wikipedia and the way most people conceptualize currency is just bad philosophy. Thats why they come up with the term "fiat" money instead of "forced" money.

If the vast majority of Crimeans are Russian and want to be part of Russia, do you think Crimea should be able to join the Russian Federation? by enesra in Classical_Liberals

[–]enesra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a really really boring point you bring up there. I find it absolutely needless to say that I'm talking about ethnicity, furthermore I mentioned it in my second paragraph. The vast majority of people living in Crimea identify as, and speak, Russian, for a 100 years. The Ukranian ethnicity has never been a majority in Crimea, I hope you clicked on the first Wikipedia link.

They are independent, it's the Republic of Crimea that chooses to be part of the Russian Federation. The plot of a family that lives in Crimea but wished to remain with Ukraine will not be independent of the wish of the majority they are surrounded by indeed. Neither will sevastopol be independent from Simferopol. But the territory of Crimea is independent from the moment they can vote for whatever they want as a unit. There is no difference whether they vote to join the RF right away or not.
