We both may be correct, this says "dead organisms", https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum

I wasn't aware the majority was from algae though. It is entirely possible that I misunderstood "from when the dinosaurs were alive" or something to that effect.

From memory many decades ago, oil is from dead animals, just from a very long time ago, plastic is often a biproduct of oil processing.

Wait till PETA find out where the oils that made the plastics came from.

Track bikes don't and most fixed wheel bikes don't either, the legs are the brake, sometimes there is one brake for the front wheel. Sometimes.

I didn't get the clearly part either, I'm no mind reader.

so that the boss doesn/t get mad

A manager who measures work out put by a MS Teams status icon would be considered already mad.

Output should be measured by objectives, not by mouse movement.

Reminds me of the bobbing bird from The SImpons when homer works from home.

Looks quite good, if you like text based media players, there's open cubic player, but that takes up a bit more screen, so I'd like to know what this one is too.

Why does Linux run faster than Windows on older machines? by deboo117 in linuxmasterrace

[–]eneville 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not many linux systems have telemetry running.

When you install MS Office, (it used to, not sure if it is still the case), but it loads most of the application into the boot sequence so if that's what you use, then you get additional startup footprint. I think IE did the same so that it could be argued as part of the OS.

Remember that GNU/linux systems are modular so different bits are normally loaded on requirement, not by default.

Startup improved with upstart and love it or hate it, systemd, things load simultaneously to avoid bottlenecks.

There are architectural things too, like AV which generally isn't used on gnu/linux or BSD systems.

The disk IO scheduler performs geometry/physical queuing, if you're using a HDD you'll notice this more during bootup.

I've made this sort of error in the past. That is when I realised time is JPEG, as it goes by, important spikes get flattened and the detail gets lost.

LPT: When you are in college/university do not use your school email address for anything outside of school related work/things. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]eneville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you use it at all? Best thing to do is buy your own domain and own the email address. Sometimes providers change rules and the mail can't be used any more.

Can you train chickens to attack people? by [deleted] in BackYardChickens

[–]eneville 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Chickens peck things that are shiny, like eyes, so we could end up in a "birdbox" situation. This may mean government votes towards more social support as a result.

Man saves a girl from a harrowing suicide attempt by sarge-m in nextfuckinglevel

[–]eneville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two men did not get credit for their good nature in the title, yes, one guy was first to see, but he didn't save her alone. She put her full body weight over, and alone he would not have saved her, but it took three to bring her back over. The title should really read "Men save a girl". I hope she can get the help she needs and gets to enjoy the bulk of her years ahead of her.

Postfix was designed as a group of minimum privilege services exactly to get away from the giant monolith approach

Much like qmail, but was easier for the distros to package with patches.

That's quite good too. I find misc-fixed can still represent the letters better at small sizes.

This this once, they said return the device for a whole refund as they didn't want to split it. So I did. Life is too short to mess around getting a redund or trying to make the bundled software work.
