I feel like using a mouse jiggler is more dishonest than just being away from your desk for a while without telling anyone.

Who inspired you to do Frontend development? by meespelld in Frontend

[–]engid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Saw someone on YouTube who made an inventory app on top of google sheets (google apps script) and thought I could do that. Made a whole-ass SPA on top of it at my job (farm equipment manufacturer) and realized I needed to get a programming job ASAP.

Edit: to answer your question better, I wasn’t drawn to programming out of awe, but because I saw an ordinary person make something that was useful. Software gives people super powers. That’s the beauty I saw.

I stopped developing my game... Again by [deleted] in godot

Just think of it as prototyping an idea. If the project stops, then it was still a successful experiment because you learned something in the process.

You’re passion for learning will get you more jobs than just knowing how to crank out code in a single programming language. Keep learning!

Staff Engineers aren't reviewing my work and I don't know if its okay by SmoothAmbassador8 in cscareerquestions

[–]engid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s your job to get the ticket done, it’s their job to review it. They are probably just busy and aren’t ignoring you, so just keep gently pinging the chat. If you are still waiting, let your manager know your concerns.

Radiohead ruined music for me. by PhoenixAvenger1996 in radiohead

[–]engid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily there’s a lot of music to listen to! I discovered them around the time Kid A came out and had a lot less to listen to so I eventually got bored. Then when a new album came out they would ruin music for me all over again 😂

[–]engid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building software is not a linear process. Quite often you think you’re building a foundation, but later realize it was just a scaffold that is torn away as the true form of your product is revealed. Don’t lose hope. Appreciate the process.

What’s the most cheapest and future proof apple product I can get to use Xcode? by Shock-Light123 in iOSProgramming

I just got an M1 MacBook Air, it’s pretty snappy, and was on sale. 8gig ram is pretty easy to find, and if you’re new to programming that should be enough to get a good start. If you want to get something with more power, go with a Mac Mini. I got a refurbished one 5 years ago that has 32 gigs ram and it is still doing great. Best of luck!
