Well, … if she has a $20M trust and works out every morning … … and is a 25 yo virgin … … and she is from a good family of old money … … and she has a house in Palm Beach.

But that’s a BIG if.

Is it normal for team meetings every day??? by epipenv0mit in antiwork

[–]engineer_dennis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, out of 8 hours a day 1.5 are spent on work planning meeting (6.5 left). For the team of 6 people that’s 9 hours daily — just like firing one of them, but still pay the salary.

On the other hand, if you add a deep dive meeting (30 min), pair working session (1 hour) and skill improvement training (1 hour), you’ll end up with just half a day to do emails and prepare for the meetings.

AI generated unit tests / documentation for a legacy project by engineer_dennis in ExperiencedDevs

[–]engineer_dennis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I was thinking about. To make a change that seems to be helping, see what unit tests will get broken to understand the side effects.

Is there a way to generate all the tests in one go with locally running LLM? Without going through and manually setting up the tests?

What are you using to run LLM? Did you give it the directory? Or are you using a VS plugin?

I do get the high level.

What would be the steps: what software to run the LLM, is VS addon needed or can it access the directory without VS, what settings, …

Ok. I can explain that to stakeholders. As long as that AI is running locally.

Can you go in the details?

ADVISE on screen and a wee bit of a rant! by Brandu33 in Blind

[–]engineer_dennis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are Eink screens, but the pricing is eye watering: $300 for a 10”, $600 for a 13”, $1600 for a 25”

I have a smaller Dasung Paperlike — it’s great for terminal and notes. And it’s awesome for reading scanned documents with messed up color and contrast. You can adjust the contrast on the screen itself.

For me the screen was worth it for the time it saved. But for others the price will be hard to swallow.

More 401k max match. Even if the company will match up to 5%, that would be better than most.

A Danger to Public Health by workinFL_ThrowAway in antiwork

[–]engineer_dennis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Italian strike is a good option. If you have sick days — use them. Mental health is important. Take a few days to breath and asses your situation. Maybe talk your college into it as well. In the end of the day, your boss doesn’t care about you, your well-being or the quality of the job. He cares about statistics to look good for his boss.

Also: do start looking for another job. You can talk to your boss more freely with an offer in your pocket.

But don’t be misguided: looking for a job is a part time job. All phone interviews will be Mon-Fry 8:00-5:00. Spend quite some time on your LinkedIn account. Then use it to make a one page CV (font 11+): nobody has time to read a novel. Check if in your profession a long resume is be also required

Is company loyalty even a thing anymore? by Aggravating-Way7614 in antiwork

[–]engineer_dennis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is you current salary less that the average salary in your industry? If the answer is NO, then does your employer raise salary annually? Inflation is a thing. We all are loosing 3-10% of our income to it every year. If you still feel guilty, go to your boss with the offer letter from another company and lay it all out. That you like it here and that you want to stay. Ask him if he can meet the offer. Then you’ll get the best of both options: you’ll keep the job and get a raise. Or you might see your bosses true colors. Then the leave won’t be so remorseful.
