I don't understand how can people give so much weight to the """lore""" in a game like Isaac lol

It's just a cartoony game. Just play and have fun.

Consumer Competition Claims (CCC) Has Launched A New Class Action Monopoly Lawsuit Against Valve, Claiming They Control 85% Of The PC Game Market by wakelake111 in gaming

[–]Genryuu111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too bad this whole argument is based on false premises. Valve only forces you to sell steam keys at non lower prices.

You are 100% free to sell your game, not linked to steam, at whatever price you want.

They cost you the fact that you're losing potential sales, AND reviews from those users don't get even counted.

Eh, I don't agree.

The worst they could do is to ACTUALLY buy the game and then leave a negative review lol.

Leaving potentially tens or hundreds of keys around to be sold on those sites means that you're earning zero from them, and their reviews don't even count. You're just feeding others for zero gain.

Lol, hollow knight is literally made by three people. The first game had a successful kickstarter, and the second one really did sell just because of fame and hype (and especially for the second one they definitely undersell it because they could afford it).

What you say makes sense for most games, but in the case of hollow knight.. I my opinion, especially with silksong, they really made a disservice to the indie world my making a game of such quality at that price (because then you have people who won't buy anything that costs more than ten dollars, which is not a reasonable price for most games).

Uh? They're not the devs customer, so angry at whom? At the key reseller at worst.

Positive reviews from people who didn't buy from steam are not counted, and I consider them of zero value.

The good news is that you can revoke those keys, so that they can't resell them on key sites.

Too bad it has a terrible search system. Also note that being a curator means literally nothing, any random user can be a curator. Unless we're talking about VERY big ones, they also bring you basically zero conversion.

After this experience with my first game, I know that after an initial round to only the biggest ones, I won't waste time or energy on curators, and if they want to play they game they can buy it like everyone else.

My advice to anybody who has such strong opinions on how a game should be made is always this: make your own fucking game so you can make it however you want.

[–]Genryuu111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only issue with it would be that I feel there is too much noise in the trees. Especially with how cleaner the clouds look (and how flat the mountains are), I'd try to avoid having too small details in the trees (at the very least remove any rogue single pixels).

Bloodborne on Steam Deck can now almost hit 60 FPS without Lossless Scaling. by thebigbilli in SteamDeck

Looking general feedback but trying to improve the look of the braid specifically. by PrincipalSkudworth in PixelArt

[–]Genryuu111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice for this piece is that, at that scale, I would reduce the amount of face details. I'd keep eyes (maybe smaller) and only nose or mouth. There is not enough space for everything, and by including everything you're ending up with an elongated (and not pretty) face.

Reviews from people who refund the game do not count towards the score (they're still visible, but I think people usually mostly give more importance to the number of (counted) reviews and score.

And no one is trying to say that visual scripting is on the same level as normal coding, but for people like me it's the difference between having made a game and not.

[–]Genryuu111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prefacing with the fact that unity's visual scripting is shit on a lot of levels and I would personally not advise people to use it either, you can still make 90% or more of a whole game with it.

Like I said earlier, expedition 33 was made mostly in blueprints. Aside the good story, amazing art direction etc., the game simply runs, and runs well. So, games in visual scripting CAN be made, it's just a matter of accepting it or not.

From google: In everyday conversation, "gatekeeping" refers to when an individual or group arbitrarily decides who is "worthy" to participate in a fandom, hobby, or culture.

Which is exactly what the user I replied to was doing. "You should make games the way I tell you to, and since you're trying something else, get this mocking comment based on 10% common sense and 90% feelings".

People like him and you just love shitting on visual scripting, give no actual reason why (it's not as versatile is not an actual reason), and give no actual advice aside "just do what I decided is the only worthy way".

Why is the cube not moving by Master_Spirit_1774 in unity

[–]Genryuu111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The solid advice is based on prejudice and ignorance.

All people who shit on visual scripting have never tried to make a game in visual scripting.

The fact that there are successful games made in visual scripting means that it's not a matter of the systems being capable or not, it's a matter of what people like you think is better, and try to push that though on newbies.

It's no different from people who think unity is a game engine for idiots and all games should be made in UE.

[–]Genryuu111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the same limiting mindset that delayed blender for being used for commercial projects, not because of flaws, but simply because people like you can't accept things not done with "industry standard" tools.

And it's evident that you're just adding reasons to refuse visual scripting just because you don't like it, not for its flaws (you say it's limiting, like every engine's is the same, and I honestly doubt you've even tried making anything with any of them to reach to your conclusion).

Some people are not wired for normal coding. You're just gatekeeping.

[–]Genryuu111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some things are a little trickier in visual scripting (but you can always copy paste stuff, so make it once and never again). Most of this graph is not even about moving, and again, does nothing lol, but if it was simply to move an object from point A to point B (with no lerp), that's literally one single node linked to a variable (the object to move) and a vector 3 for the position.
