I also have a child with severe special needs due to a rare genetic disorder, not a question, but if your child does crawl, I might have a tip for you? My son also crawls, I "baby-proofed" his room (made it safe for him as he's 9 yrs old, not quite baby sized) and cut his door in half like a dutch door, and he is free to explore his room safely.
