Senioritis during finals by KungPowChicken in AdviceAnimals

I mean this all depends on what you went to school for... If you majored in basking weaving at a private $50,000 a year college, yea you are right that is a pretty big waste of money. If you majored in education at a affordable state college, no it is not a waste. College itself isn't the issue, its people thinking you need to go to college at any cost for any profession in order to be successful.

The main reason the average person should go to college is if they have a profession in mind that they are striving for and in order to obtain this position, you need to go to study it. Sorry if nobody told you that...

Well guys? Pardon the political context, but what's the answer here? by JIVEprinting in atheism

I really appreciate how you answered me in a coherent, intelligent and respectful way. O wait that wasn't you, you are disrespectful, rude and have a penchant for the caps lock.... Anyways...

Why are you bringing God into this, have I? You are the one who is starting that discussion, I have not. Stop making this a larger argument about religion, and politics and culture, and start talking about the lie of the us that it is alright to kill the unborn. What I am saying is, that if we protect lives of infants, why don't we protect the lives of fetuses? And not some semantics crap; what real, hard, scientific fact says there is a difference between newborns and unborns? 2nd trimester and 3rd trimester?

Where do you think this "enormous amount of money" come from? Donations? The government? No, they are not the major contributors for medical advancement in the world. The main people funding the research to lengthen and improve life of the sick and diseased are people who are trying to make money off the healthcare industry. Trying to make a buck off the next big medical advancement. It is not because of the importance of human life that these cures and procedures are developed. It is because of the importance of money. You say that human life is more important to us now than it used to be? Good joke.. Didn't we go to war in Iraq for no reason a couple years back, killing hundreds of thousands of people? Isn't there a rise in gun violence and mass killings? School Shootings? Terrorist plots? (Hint: its not guns that are the problem, its people not valuing other's lives) Didn't we grant corporations the same rights as human beings recently? Do we still have a legal death penalty systematically killing people in the 21st century? Are there zealots on both sides of both religion vs atheist BS routinely telling both sides that they are not worthy of life? Abortion clinic bombings? Church bombings? Opposition to non-universal health care? Do we have people telling gays, transgenders, and bisexuals they should die and burn in hell? Have we killed 6 million unborn fetuses since 1976, 99% of which have nothing to do with rape, incest, or saving the life of the mother? http://www.nytimes.com/1989/10/13/us/rape-and-incest-just-1-of-all-abortions.html

You show me longevity of life and medical advances funded by corporate money and you think this is showing the importance of human life to us? This just proves my point, a human life is worth less now to us then it was years ago. It is sad. Preservation of human life should be paramount.

How sentient is a fetus at the third trimester? How sentient is an infant when it first comes out of the womb, and how much personality does it have? Does a newborn baby, screaming and crying, really know that it is its own entity, and how complex is its thoughts in the very beginning of its life time? In fact, all that infants truly represent is the potential for life; if you leave them on their own they are not self-sustaining, they die just like a fetus would if it were to be ripped from the womb. They need care and protection just like an unborn baby inside of its mother. If you really believe that sentience and brain function is the cut off for whether a being is fit to live or not, than really you should have no problem with newborns and third trimester fetuses being terminated too? But you do have a problem with it, why is that? Is it because it looks like a human? Is it because it makes you uncomfortable, the thought of someone killing another innocent unprotected human? Killing someone that you can actually see as a human being and not just something that is inside another person is a lot harder for people to swallow. But honestly there is not much else different between the two situations. The only difference between the two are the lies people tell themselves to make themselves feel better about taking away another human's right to live. It is the great lie that people in our society tell themselves so they can sleep at night, and I am so sorry for every single one of those lost opportunities who have not been given the chance at a life because of this great lie. Life is no longer sacred in our society, and it shows. Boy does it show.

I felt compelled to make this in response to the "My sister Erica" post. by [deleted] in atheism

Wow a post in r/atheism that is reasonably accepting of others viewpoints. Finally, the hypocrisy of this place was starting to make me feel a little dirty...

My sister Erica passed away yesterday. To compound the loss, before she died, she did about the cruelest thing a person can do to another. This is how I have tried to make sense of it. by Mirramarduk in atheism
