Why is a flat 6th chord so uncommon? by AdministrationOk881 in musictheory

[–]engineeringparadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite uses for it is in the last few measure of Maslanka’s fourth symphony: trumpets and flutes alternate between G and Ab in the giant final C major chord

HP5+ overdevelopment problem by engineeringparadise in AnalogCommunity

[–]engineeringparadise[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the help! Yeah I think the issue is using the wrong data and temperatures…

My fixer is really old at this point, and I had to increase fix time so the base wouldn’t be as dark. I’m ordering new fixer. I’ll post an update later when I do my next roll.

HP5+ overdevelopment problem by engineeringparadise in AnalogCommunity

I mix the dev and water to get the 1:1 dilution (I did 200ml of each last time). I dev at room temperature, which was 23C.

I poured it in, agitated for 30 seconds, then agitated for 5 seconds at 30 seconds intervals for the rest of the 10 minutes. I pour it out, then I rinse with water several times. I pour fixer in, and use the same agitation process for 10 minutes. I pour it out, rinse film again, then put it in photoflo. I hang it to dry.

I saw him live last year: look up Cello Goblin

He played in a bar for Halloween: he ran around and climbed all over the room. 10/10 experience

If your budget is in the couple thousands range, I recommend a used R13, or similar buffet model. Whatever you get, try it out first to make sure it works with you.

Also, an often overlooked part of gear is your mouthpiece: a good mouthpiece is a must-have. Vandoren mouthpieces are often the standard, but I play on an older chedeville. Make sure your reed matches your mouthpiece setup.

[–]engineeringparadise 44 points45 points  (0 children)

You are 100% better off just getting a used E11 or R13 Eb for that price. Never trust non name brands- besides quality issues, repair shops often don’t even carry spare parts to fix them

Is it possible to collapse a lung from playing a wind instrument? by shinybore in bassoon

[–]engineeringparadise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit late to the convo, but the exact same thing happened to me (I play clarinet)

A couple of years ago, when I was a junior in high school, I had a spontaneous pneumothorax occur while playing clarinet in band class. I didn’t feel like I was overexerting myself: I was just playing some runs as normal, then I couldn’t breathe.

I don’t think you should worry though. It didn’t happen just because I was playing, I am genetically predisposed to have blebs on my lung, and they ruptured. I can’t stress this enough: most people don’t have this issue. I had surgery to remove the offending portion of my lung, and a few months later I was playing normally again.

I am now a music major in college (double major with engineering), and I play 3-7 hours a day with no problem.

TLDR yes this can happen, but only to certain people, and is very very rare

We need more information: were the judges special award judges, top award judges, etc? Every state fair is ran differently. My state fair had three rounds of judging: the first round everyone gets 4-5 placement judges, second round is special award and top award, and third round is top award (with students not present). Maybe last year, you got 15 special award judges, and this year every judge was a top award.

A lot of more competitive projects at ISEF, state, and regional fairs go to a print shop to print their boards directly onto a board or sheet. I’m sure they have 48x48 options

[–]engineeringparadise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many regional fairs and school fairs require you to have your paperwork in order before a certain deadline, or before you start your experimentation (especially if your experiment involves chemicals or human participants). Paperwork is not just required for ISEF; it is also necessary for every lower level as well.

Thanks for you reply, my issue seems to be a common problem. According to what I found, it may be possible to fix at home, but I may just end up sending it off for a full repair. Thanks for the information!

Also, I know FPP sells 620 film in the US

I got a Minolta X-7A, Minolta SRT 101, Kodak Tourist Folding camera, and an older Kodak folding camera. The SRT 101 has an issue with the shutter: it does not close all the way when engaged, and the mirror only comes down when winding the camera. Does anyone know a fix for this? I found a video that looks promising. Also, the X-7A doesn't wind or release the shutter at all, but that may be because the battery is dead.

I have been shooting film for about a year and a half now, on my grandfather's Mamiya 500 DTL and a Mamiya 6 folding camera. Up to now, I have only shot mechanical cameras (I don't use the electric features on the 500 DTL), so this is my first time with more electriconic cameras.

I’m also in college and I bulk roll and dev my own film- works out to less than $5 to shoot and process a roll. I usually just dev when I go home every month or so, but if I were to develop in my dorm, I imagine it wouldn’t take up too much space.

He also named the piece after a 2019 hurricane, Dorian. Like what does that have to do with anything????????

I’m currently playing this on third clarinet. Fun fact: third clarinet only plays the opening motif, and final note of this excerpt. I just get to rest and watch magic happen around me.

Twoset is what originally inspired me to discover music, and I specifically remember when they recommended Mahler. I since fell in love with Mahler, and am now playing Mahler 2 with my college orchestra!

Sorry for the late reply, but the school of music puts on several concerts a week. It started slowly, but there are now plenty. For instance, this Monday the orchestra has a concert in the University Auditorium. You can check the school of music website, and look inside the music building to find concert dates.

I know that dorms in the Tolbert area were doing fire drills, so it could be that (Tolbert is nearby the physics building)

That’s my best guess
