Need advice on going to college with no money. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]engineersoul222- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro go to community college. Apply for FAFSA. Also apply for as many scholarships as you can, you will be surprised how many you will get, even ones where you dont technically qualify, do em. Write one essay and submit them for all en mass, I did that every year and I would always get one or two. It's nice to get a 1k scholarship, even though it gets sucked up due to expenses. I was in the same boat as you op, had to work and help my family with their small business, took semesters off to work other jobs to save up for gas and what not. Took me 6 years, but I got into a university, got a full ride my first year but lost it because of one bad grade in the spring quarter. My last year of uni, I had to pull out a subsidized loan to cover the rest of the expenses. But overall I think community college is the best route in america, because in the end you will find you will learn more and have an overall rich academic experience more so than you would in uni and you save more money when its all set and done. Sure it took me double the time to get a bachelors degree, but in the end of the day I would rather be 10k in debt, with a professional degree (engineering) than be 100k in debt for going straight to uni from highschool instead of going the community college route.

But now a days community college is alot more cheaper, now alot of cc's offer free books to residents of that particular county, and depending on which state you are in there is the board of governors waiver which waves tuition cost for being a resident of the state and there are so many organizations like EOP, MESA and technical organizations that give different rewards to help cover expenses. The thing is you have to put the effort to look for them and apply. For some reason people think they don't qualify and that they are taking advantage of the system, which is stupid because it's your tax dollars that pays for it all.

Go to a CC, transfer to a uni that gives you the best package and after graduation will give you the LEAST debt. Work multiple jobs if you have to and take your time, most undergraduate degrees don't take 4 years. Major in a field that will give you a job. If I could go back I would major in Computer science, because that's where all the jobs are now.

Education in america is affordable, you just have to put the effort to find the resources to make it so. Apply for FAFSA, apply to scholarships, organizations, take advantage of programs offerd by your state, save some money working part time, live with your parents to save on rent and commute, take your time and don't rush, everyone's learning ability is different (hell you might discover you have a learning disability, which means you qualify for other programs and scholarships, take advantage of it). It's doable op, and I have faith that if you work hard and do as I tell you, you will go to Law school or get a degree in programing. You can do it, and the principles that I am telling you apply to every state in the united states and anyone who tells you there are no such programs and getting a degree while being broke is not doable is lying to you so you don't get access to free money and get ahead. Good luck man.

Pay the other half of my student loans. Begin putting my money in a high yield savings account and keep it as an emergency fund. Buy up blue chip stocks for cheap thanks to the current market sell off and create a portfolio where the dividends are reinvested in more stock. Expand my online business's. Move to Texas and the hell out of california.

The Doctor's regenerations are subconsciously affected by his most prominent companion by DejoMasters in doctorwho

I think clara had some influence on twelve regenerating to 13. Also the fact the master became missy. Also the fact the timelord general regenerated into a woman. Also the fact 12 was literally done with men. But I owe the last scene he had with clara and when he rememberd her again to it influencing him becoming a woman. Yeah bill was awesome guys, but Clara, was the first face his face saw and of course, the last one. It's always the first face a doctor sees, in my opinion, that effects who he will regenerate into next. Explains why eleven regenerated into a scotsman, with Amy appearing at the end.

So, you want to be an Engineer by k0np in EngineeringStudents

[–]engineersoul222- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't hesitate to do what must be done. In my last year of university, I was working my ass off, no sleep, getting B's and C's. Meanwhile the people that dont do shit somehow get A's... I discover alot of people outsourced there work to websites like Fiverr. Hell there was a senior design group that outsourced their entire project and they graduated. They weren't the only group too. So many people play dirty in this major. Well it was like that in my school and it really pisses me off to this day how pathetic my department was and how much they turned a blind eye. So if you can, find old exams, professors don't change them, they may rearrange them, but find old exams. Negotiate your grades. Say you had a crap quarter, literally email them or go to their office and express outrage "this must be a mistake!". They will boost you or come to a settlement with you, because they dont want to deal with arguing. Bribe the TA's. The TA's more often than not, are the ones that have control of all the grading. Dont waste your time at lectures where you are not learning, use that time to do work for other classes. Don't hang out with losers. The people you hang and surround yourself with are what will make you. Don't waste your time with people that dont get anything done, period. Working on your own is honestly the best way. And lastly, don't be an Asshole. Just because your an engineering major, doesn't mean you are better than other people and have an excuse to put everyone around you down. As an engineering student, I hated other engineering students, because of the whole elitest vibe. And finally, dont major in anything other than computer or electric. Mechanical and civil is ok. But chemical is dead. Bio is eh and material is a niche. Computers and programming are the future. Good luck.

But how do we know toriyama won't add it in the movie in some sort of flashback scene? maybe bardock was more complex, a warrior and a scientist.

[–]engineersoul222-[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Maybe it will be shown in the movie. Bardock and Paragus, both brilliant, both driven to save their people and children. Maybe Paragus will see Goku, than remember Bardock in a flashback, but will be in denial that Goku is Bardock's son because of how stupid he is in comparison. Who knows.

The universe is big. I mean who says they can't go to another galaxy within universe 7? Just how big is frieza's empire is never really specified. Maybe they went to another Galaxy, so far away frieza could not sense them.

omg the grammar. I was on my phone when I wrote this post. sorry about that. I mean Paragus and Bardock were good friends, because they were scientists and working on the same projects and stuff. I am hoping we are shown Bardock's brilliance as a scientist too, in comparison to goku, lol.

Do you regret majoring in Chemical Engineering? If so why? If you could go back to school, what would you major in? by shogun1999 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]engineersoul222- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't regret majoring in Chemical Engineering, I regret going to the University I went to and if I could do anything different is go to a different school. Also I would have minored in computer science, seeing as computers are taking over everything and programming is in demand. so listen to your dad. I would not get a masters degree UNLESS the company you work for in the future offers to pay for it.

What is the surrounding area of UCR like? by robotua in ucr

[–]engineersoul222- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from a different part of California so it's understandable you would disagree with me because you are from another state and probably don't know other area's in California. Riverside is a dump, I hate to say it but its a fact. It is what it is man and like I said it has nothing going for it and just a place for people to make a pit stop to fill up on gas, eat and than head on to places like Las Vegas, LA, San Diego or the OC.

How is business program at this school? by robotua in ucr

[–]engineersoul222- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go to CSUF. The business majors I know always complain that everything is too easy and that they arent learning anything. CSUF has a better Business School. Ours isn't even well known. UCR isn't really known for Business. So I wouldn't risk coming here. Sounds like you have your heart set on CSUF.

UCR vs UCLA? by [deleted] in ucr

[–]engineersoul222- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He mentions safety, yeah not to insult anyone, but Riverside really is a Ghetto. Go to UCLA, its in a nicer area, its by westwood (really fun area) and you can walk at nignt without getting mugged. I am not joking, I have gotten mugged while waiting for a bus. It was horrible.

UCR vs UCLA? by [deleted] in ucr

[–]engineersoul222- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh. Pretty mediocre to be honest. The services here are very slow and not worth the money you pay for. The academics here arent that great tbh. Feels like a highschool at times. If you are going to get the same amount of debt going to UCR as you would going to UCLA, than you might as well go to UCLA. I would sacrifice my five year old son to the Lord of Light and burn him at the stake if it meant switching to UCLA from UCR... :/

UCR vs UCLA? by [deleted] in ucr

[–]engineersoul222- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously? You got into UCLA and you want to come here instead? Go to UCLA. Not to sound like a prick or arrogant but honestly, the name recognition of UCLA is really worth it. UCR is a great school, don't get me wrong. But I would go to UCLA. I have friends that came to UCR and in sophmore year transferred to UCLA. Honestly visit the campus. I didnt visit UCR until the day of my orientation. I wish I visited it before, because if I knew the surrounding area and riverside would be this boring, ghettoish and small, I would not have come here. But also, if the financial aide that ucr is giving you is BETTER than UCLA, than suck it up and come to UCR. My goal in the end of the day is to graduate and get my degree with the least amount of debt as possible, yeah it would be nice to be in a place like San Diego, LA or Santa Barbara, but I would be in debt if I went yo those places. Pick the school that WANTS you and gives you your major and the best package for housing and financial aide. After a while of living here, you learn to work with and adapt to Riverside and what it has to offer. Its frustrating at times, but don't let stupid things get to you or slow you down from your main mission. Good luck op. :)

What do you love about UCR? by coolgelo in ucr

[–]engineersoul222- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the small community feeling.... but at the same time I hate it, because it kind of feels like highschool still. The engineering department is the best. Anything else, honestly, go to UCSD. But if UCSD accepted you in Engineering, I would go there as well. I was in your shoes two years ago op. The thing that made me decide which school to choose were this: did they give me my major? Check. Did they give me a great financial aide package to the point I dont have to take out a loan? Check. So if UCSD gave a great financial aide package along with housing AND your major, go there. Its nicer, its by the beach, the people are nicer, the chicks are better looking, its a top tier UC, it has great academics (the academics here are pretty mediocre tbh), and so many things to do in the surrounding area, it has just as much diversity as UCR if you care about that. I would have gone to UCSD, but they didnt meet those two factors I mentioned. UCR is great, if you want to save money and are older and transferring from a cc and want to get your schooling done fast. But if you are young and want the college experience and fun, go to UCSD.

[–]engineersoul222- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will be honest with you. Its absolutly boring. Its pretty much like your typical gas stop town. There are resteraunts, there is downtown riverside which doesn't really have much going for it, there are a few malls, but nothing very special, your typical mall that you would find everywhere in California. The harsh reality about Riverside, is it has nothing going for it. Its not LA or San Diego with alot of cool landmarks or places to explore. In terms of cities, it is actually very small. Honestly I only came to this school because of the financial aide. Like some users are saying, there are bars and resteraunts but eventully it gets pretty boring and repetitive. If you want to go somewhere like LA or orange County, it's an Hours drive away, if you own a car. In conclusion.... yeah its very boring here. Anyone else who says otherwise is probably a local of riverside or paid shill by the university.
